Edwards and JT Chargois were acquired by the Marlins from the Rays on Tuesday in exchange for Marcus Johnson and Santiago Suarez.
EDGE Analysis
Edwards was one of Tampa Bay's top prospects but will be flipped in order to acquire a couple minor-league pitchers. He spent 2022 at the Triple-A level and had a .246/.328/.350 slash line with five home runs, 33 RBI and seven stolen bases in 93 games, so a change of scenery certainly won't hurt.

Edwards (shoulder) has gone 3-for-12 with a double, a walk, a stolen base and two runs in three games for Triple-A Durham since being reinstated from Double-A Montgomery's 7-day injured list Tuesday and getting transferred to the Rays' top affiliate.
EDGE Analysis
Coming out of spring training, Edwards was assigned to Double-A Montgomery and placed on the IL due to a shoulder impingement, but he ended up making his 2022 debut at Triple-A, presumably because Durham's infield depth has been tested with Taylor Walls, Isaac Paredes and Vidal Brujan all having been recently moved up to the big-league roster. In addition to the aforementioned three players, the Rays also have another middle-infield prospect in Jonathan Aranda at Triple-A, and since he possesses a 40-man roster spot, he'll likely be in line for a promotion to the big leagues before Edwards, who isn't on the 40-man roster.

Edwards (shoulder) has been working out at the team's spring training facility and is nearing a return to game action, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Edwards was diagnosed with a shoulder impingement in early April, though the issue was not deemed to be major. It's not clear exactly what activity Edwards has been engaged in while missing game action, but it appears that a return in late April remains realistic.

Edwards has been diagnosed with a shoulder impingement, but the Rays hope he can return to the field by late April, Sam Dykstra of MLB Pipeline reports.
EDGE Analysis
Edwards suffered the injury in early March, which kept him out of game action for all of spring training. His absence will now extend into the minor-league regular season, though the team plans for him to return to the lineup with Triple-A Durham in the next few weeks. Edwards is a strong prospect based on an above-average hit tool and excellent speed, but he is blocked by the likes of Wander Franco and Brandon Lowe at the big-league level.

Double-A Montgomery reinstated Edwards (oblique) from the 7-day injured list Tuesday, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
Edwards landed on the IL with the oblique issue in early May, and after a month-long absence, he looks ready to make his 2021 and organization debut. The 21-year-old switch-hitting infielder slashed .301/.349/.367 over 217 plate appearances at High-A Lake Elsinore in 2019 as a member of the Padres organization. Tampa Bay acquired Edwards in the deal that sent Tommy Pham and Jake Cronenworth to San Diego prior to the 2020 campaign.

Edwards is opening the year on the 7-day injured list with Double-A Montgomery due to an oblique injury, Sam Dykstra of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
He suffered the injury in minor-league camp, but the Rays don't think the injury is serious. Edwards is expected back sometime this month.

Edwards was added to the Rays' player pool Friday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Edwards came over from the Padres in the Tommy Pham trade over the winter. He's an interesting prospect, with plenty of speed and the ability to hit for average, though he's unlikely to help the Rays this season as he's yet to reach Double-A.

Edwards advanced to High-A Lake Elsinore on Tuesday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Edwards earns a deserved promotion after hitting .336/.392/.414 in 77 games for Low-A Fort Wayne. He makes quite a lot of contact (10.2 percent strikeout rate) and has excellent speed (20 steals), though he has almost no power (just one career professional home run).

Edwards went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and three runs scored for Low-A Fort Wayne on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Edwards has been raking for the TinCaps all season, but this performance was notable in that he homered in the fourth inning, marking his first long ball at any professional level. Despite the lack of power, he's hit very well throughout his minor-league career, as he's slashing .336/.414/.400 since he was drafted in 2018. If Thursday's long ball is a sign he's set to add more power to his game, it would be a big addition to his profile, as he's already clearly a skilled offensive prospect.

Edwards went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and three runs for Low-A Fort Wayne on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Edwards has cooled a little bit since his blazing hot start to the season for the TinCaps that at one point saw him hitting .378, but not by much. This multi-hit effort brings the 19-year-old's slash line up to .349/.402/.410 through 229 at-bats as he continues to toy with Midwest League pitching. He has little left to prove in Low-A, although his youth and lack of power (he still has yet to homer at the professional level) could mean the Padres will wait at least a little while longer before bumping him up a level.
