The Marlins placed Edwards on the 10-day injured list due to mild back extensor soreness.
EDGE Analysis
Edwards missed the final two games of the Marlins' series against the Cubs over the weekend with the back issue, and though an MRI on Sunday returned negative, the team will err on the side of caution and deactivate him. Before landing on the IL, Edwards was able to take some swings and do some throwing on the field Sunday, so he could have a chance at returning from the IL when first eligible Sept. 3. Vidal Brujan is expected to serve as the Marlins' primary shortstop in place of Edwards, who had slashed .356/.432/.442 with 10 extra-base hits and 22 stolen bases since moving into a full-time role at the beginning of July.

The Marlins are expected to place Edwards (back) on the 10-day injured list prior to Monday's game against the Rockies, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Outfielder Griffin Conine is set to receive a call-up from Triple-A Jacksonville and will meet up with the Marlins in Colorado for the start of the club's four-game series with the Rockies, while Edwards will head to the IL to open up on a spot on the 26-man active roster. Edwards had missed the Marlins' past two games with lower-back discomfort, and though an MRI returned negative and he was able to do some work on the field Sunday, the club wants to give the young infielder more time to heal up from the injury. Edwards' placement on the IL will be retroactive to Saturday, and he should have a good chance at being ready to return when first eligible Sept. 3. Vidal Brujan is likely to step in as the Marlins' primary shortstop while Edwards is on the shelf.

Edwards (back) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs.
EDGE Analysis
The 25-year-old will sit for the second straight game after he exited Friday's contest due to lower-back discomfort. Edwards had medical imaging on his back come back negative Saturday, and he took a step forward prior to Sunday's game by taking some swings and doing some throwing, per Noah Berger of ElExtraBase.com. He can be considered day-to-day heading into the Marlins' upcoming four-game series in Colorado that begins Monday.

Imaging on Edwards' lower back came back negative Saturday, and he's considered day-to-day, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Edwards was removed from Friday's game against the Cubs due to a lower-back injury he sustained attempting to steal a base. Considering Saturday's testing didn't reveal any significant injury, Edwards shouldn't miss more than a few games -- if he misses time at all. The Marlins close out a home series against the Cubs on Sunday before heading out on a seven-game road trip.

Edwards is receiving imaging on his lower back this weekend, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Edwards left in the third inning of Friday's game against the Cubs after sustaining a lower-back injury during a steal attempt in the second frame. The results of the imaging will determine whether Edwards will need a stint on the IL or just a few days of rest. The 25-year-old is in the midst of a five-game hitting streak and is slashing .349/.428/.436 with 22 stolen bases, 25 runs scored, one home run and 17 RBI across 202 plate appearances this season. In the interim, Vidal Brujan will see more playing time at shortstop for as long as Edwards is sidelined.

Edwards (back) is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Cubs.

Edwards was removed from Friday's game against the Cubs due to lower-back discomfort, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Edwards singled during his lone at-bat Friday and then stole second base, but he was replaced at shortstop once the Marlins took the field in the third inning. The severity of his back injury remains unknown, though Vidal Brujan would presumably take over as Miami's starting shortstop if Edwards is unable to play Saturday.

Edwards went 1-for-3 with two walks and a stolen base in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Mets.
EDGE Analysis
Edwards continues to dominate on the basepaths, notching his eighth theft over his past seven games. The 25-year-old rookie only has one extra-base hit during that span, but his lofty .441 OBP has given him plenty of baserunning opportunities. Edwards is up to 21 steals in 23 attempts this season, slashing .350/.435/.427 with 24 runs scored and an impressive 26:29 BB:K in 43 games.

Edwards went 1-for-4 with two walks, a run scored and two stolen bases in Saturday's 9-8 extra-inning loss to the Padres.
EDGE Analysis
The Marlins ran wild on Kyle Higashioka, going 5-for-5 on steal attempts on the afternoon with Edwards leading the charge. The 25-year-old shortstop is up to 15 stolen bases in 17 attempts through only 37 games on the season, but he's been even more dangerous on the basepaths over the last couple weeks, going 11-for-11 in the last 16 contests while slashing .359/.419/.469. The last player in MLB history to steal 100 or more bases over a full season was Vince Coleman in 1987 with 109, but that's the kind of pace Edwards is on right now.

Edwards went 2-for-5 with a stolen base in Thursday's extra-inning loss to the Reds.
EDGE Analysis
The 25-year-old has become a menace on the basepaths. Edwards has 13 steals in 35 games since joining the big-league roster, and 10 in his last 17 contests -- a stretch in which he's slashing .406/.461/.516. His .375 batting average is fueled by an unsustainable .452 BABIP, but Edwards is firmly entrenching himself as Miami's starting shortstop and leadoff hitter of the present and future.
