Orioles recalled OF Xavier Avery from Triple-A Norfolk. He was just sent down Sunday but is back to replace the injured Brian Roberts (groin). Avery will back up at all three outfield spots.

Avery is starting in left field on Thursday night against the Indians and could be in line for regular playing time while the O's battle through a multitude of outfield injuries. Avery, 22, hit just .217 with a .615 OPS in 68 plate appearances for Baltimore earler this year, but he may be a good source of steals in AL-only fantasy leagues.

Xavier Avery went 0-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in Monday's setback to Boston. Interestingly, Avery was the only batter on either side not to get a hit. Still, he is off to a good major league start with a .278/.366/.417 triple slash.

He's not on the 40-man roster, so the O's will have to do some shuffling. Avery, 22, is batting .273/.373/.469 with five homers and eight steals for Norfolk. He could receive some playing time in left field with both Nolan Reimold and Endy Chavez out. Avery will be making his major league debut.
