Astudillo's odds of making the 26-man roster have increased due to the delayed start to the season, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Had the season started on time, the Twins would have likely broken camp with LaMonte Wade and Jake Cave on the roster due to the fact Byron Buxton (shoulder) and Marwin Gonzalez (knee) were expected to enter the season at less than 100 percent. However, the shutdown period will allow both players to get fully healthy, and it's possible that a condensed season with fewer off days would incline the Twins to carry three catchers, which would favor Astudillo. He hit .269 with zero extra-base hits, zero walks and one strikeout in 26 plate appearances this spring.

Astudillo started at catcher and went 2-for-3 with an RBI in his spring debut in Saturday's win over Pittsburgh.
EDGE Analysis
Astudillo will battle for a final reserve spot this spring as it's not clear if the Twins will decide to keep him as the 26th man (with new expanded active rosters) or a reserve outfielder such as Jake Cave. Astudillo could give the Twins a third catcher and he can also fulfill a utility role, as he also played third base, second base and left field last year. However, he'll need a strong spring at the plate after hitting a disappointing .268 with a .678 OPS last season.

Astudillo is not on the Twins' ALDS roster.
EDGE Analysis
Despite striking out at a typically miniscule 3.9 percent clip, Astudillo didn't do much damage at the plate this season, hitting just .268/.299/.397 in 204 plate appearances. Luis Arraez's return from an ankle injury makes Astudillo largely irrelevant as a utility option.

Astudillo went 4-for-5 with a solo home run, two RBI and four runs scored Thursday against the Tigers.
EDGE Analysis
Astudillo reached base four times and came around to score on each occasion. The highlight came in the eighth inning, when he smacked his fourth home run of the campaign. He's played only sparingly down the stretch, as Thursday's start was his third in the team's past eight games.

Astudillo remains on the bench Tuesday against the White Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Astudillo started fairly frequently earlier in the month, but the return of Marwin Gonzalez from an abdominal injury appears to have cut into his playing time. Gonzalez starts at first base for the second straight game.

Astudillo is not starting Monday against the White Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Astudillo has been given plenty of opportunities in September, starting nine times this month. He's hit for a decent average but has done little else, posting a .273/.351/.303 slash line, though he does have a characteristically low 5.4 percent strikeout rate over that stretch.

The Twins reinstated Astudillo (oblique) from the 10-day injured list Sunday. He'll start at first base and bat eighth in the Twins' game against the Tigers.
EDGE Analysis
Astudillo had been sidelined for the Twins' previous 56 games with a left oblique strain but has been healthy for a while now. He recently wrapped up a 14-game rehab assignment split between Triple-A Rochester and Double-A Pensacola, hitting .333 with four home runs. Now that he's back with the big club, Astudillo looks on track to serve as the team's No. 3 backstop and an occasional starter at either corner-infield spot during September.
