Will Venable returned to action on Tuesday August 2.

Will Venable was scratched from Friday's lineup against the Rockies due to back spasms. Chris Denorfia will make the start in right field Friday and bat sixth against right-hander Jason Hammel. It's probably safe to consider Venable day-to-day.

Will Venable was scratched from Saturday's lineup with sore hamstrings. It's bad timing for the outfielder, as he's coming off a big series against the Marlins, when he picked up six hits, including a home run, while stealing three bases. Chris Denorfia has taken his spot in right field.

Will Venable went 2-for-5 with a homer and a steal in the Padres' 5-3 win over the Giants in San Francisco on Monday. Venable's second homer of the year plopped into McCovey's Cove, only to get thrown back afterwards. Venable probably appreciated the souvenir. He does have 29 big-league homers to his credit, but he's struggled to hit for any sort of power this year.
