Mahle has been diagnosed with an impingement to the back of his right elbow, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mahle exited Thursday's start against the Royals with the injury but didn't have any imaging done, and the issue will be treated with anti-inflammatories. It's possible he could even make his next start if the symptoms clear up in a few days. Realistically though, Mahle will probably be pushed back, with a trip to the injured list also possible.

Mahle exited Thursday's start against the Royals after four innings due to right posterior elbow soreness, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mahle was very effective across four innings, allowing only one earned run on two hits while striking out six. The severity of the issue is unclear, though he may undergo tests in the coming days to determine his availability for his next scheduled start.

Mahle did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing one run on three hits without allowing a walk over 6.1 innings against Washington. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
Mahle was chased in the seventh inning by a Joey Meneses home run, but he was still in line for the win. However the Minnesota bullpen did not hold up, forcing Mahle to settle for a quality start in his best outing of the season. The 28-year-old righty didn't walk a batter for the first time this season and allowed a season-low three hits. Mahle is currently lined up to face the Yankees in his next start.

Mahle (1-2) took the loss Saturday, giving up four runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks over 4.1 innings as the Twins were downed 6-1 by the Yankees. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
Three of the four hits off the right-hander went for extra bases, including home runs by Kyle Higashioka and Anthony Rizzo, but it was Mahle's own error that tempered the damage to his ERA. He tossed only 53 of 90 pitches for strikes before exiting. Mahle will carry a 4.11 ERA and 18:5 K:BB through 15.1 innings into his next outing, likely to come next week in Boston.

Mahle will have his start pushed back one day from Friday to Saturday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Twins' rotation will shift as the team skips Kenta Maeda's (arm) turn through the rotation this weekend against the Yankees. As a result, Louie Varland will be recalled from Triple-A St. Paul to start Friday and Mahle will take the hill Saturday. Mahle has been mediocre through two starts, maintaining a 4.09 ERA and 1.36 WHIP to go along with a more impressive 13:2 K:BB across 11 frames.

Mahle (1-1) took the loss Sunday, allowing four runs on eight hits and one walk over six innings against Houston. He struck out six.
EDGE Analysis
All four of Mahle's earned runs came from Chas McCormick, who opened the scoring with a two-run blast in the third and extended Houston's lead to 4-1 in the fifth with a two-run double. Given the opponent, Mahle's outing was satisfactory, and he now has 13 strikeouts in 11 innings through his first two starts. Things don't get any easier for Mahle, as his next start is tentatively scheduled against the Yankees.

Mahle (1-0) earned the win over Miami on Monday, pitching five innings and allowing one run on five hits and one walk while striking out seven batters.
EDGE Analysis
Mahle had an uneven performance in spring training, posting a 5.09 ERA over 17.2 innings. He didn't let that carry over into the regular season, however, as the right-hander opened the campaign with a seven-strikeout, one-run performance that earned him a win. Mahle's 2022 season was marred by injury and inconsistency, resulting in a 4.40 ERA and 1.22 WHIP. However, he went 13-6 with a 3.75 ERA and 10.5 K/9 the year prior, and a return to that level would make him a staple on fantasy rosters in all formats.

Mahle gave up three earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks in 4.2 innings in Thursday's spring training loss to Tampa Bay. His spring ERA increased to 5.93. His fastball velocity did increase to a 92.1 to 94.6 mph range, however, from his last spring start when he was in the 89-93 mph range.
EDGE Analysis
Mahle's fastball velocity was noticeably down during his last spring start which was a little concerning, but it doesn't appear to be an issue. Mahle is having a rough spring with 23 hits and three home runs allowed in 13.2 innings. However, he also has a 12:5 K:BB ratio. Mahle is a veteran who has a set spot in the rotation, so his stats may not matter as he just builds up strength for the season. Most importantly, he looks healthy after an injury-plagued 2022 season. Mahle struggled with a sore shoulder last year, ending his season in early September.

Mahle gave up three home runs in a row and four runs total in 3.2 innings Friday against the Orioles and his fastball velocity was in the 89-93 mph range after being in the 90-94 mph range in his previous outing. However, Mahle said his shoulder felt fine. "I felt pretty good with where I was at today. I know I gave up back-to-back-to-back home runs, but whatever. I felt pretty good," he told The Athletic.
EDGE Analysis
In Mahle's March 11 start against the Red Sox, he had 13 pitches of 93-94 mph, and he threw just two pitches of 93 mph and zero 94 mph pitches in Friday's outing. It might be nothing, but it's at least mildly concerning that his velocity is trending down. Mahle struggled with a sore shoulder last year, ending his season in early September. All the reports on his shoulder have been positive this spring, but monitor his final spring outings.

Mahle gave up two runs with four strikeouts in 2.1 innings in Saturday's spring start. Mahle has a 3.38 ERA with six strikeouts and one walk in 5.1 innings so far this spring.
EDGE Analysis
More important than his stats, Mahle has looked healthy after he struggled with a sore shoulder last year, ending his season in August. Mahle had similar strikeout rates (9.4 K/9) and walk rates (3.2 B/9) last season in comparison to the past few years, so he could rebound after a disappointing season (4.40 ERA) to become a key part of the Minnesota rotation.
