Alexander struck out five and allowed one hit and no walks over three scoreless innings in relief en route to earning a save in Sunday's 14-1 win over the Athletics.
EDGE Analysis
After allowing eight runs (four earned) in his previous appearance as a starter in an April 14 loss to the Tigers, Alexander shifted to the bullpen and gave up his spot in the rotation to rookie Logan Henderson. Henderson dazzled in his MLB debut and picked up the win after the limiting the Athletics to one run while striking out nine over six innings, but Alexander finished out the contest in efficient fashion, needing just 42 pitches to retire nine of the 10 batters he faced. The save was the first of Alexander's seven-year MLB career, but the veteran lefty is likely to be used mainly in lower-leverage spots moving forward.

Manager Pat Murphy indicated Tuesday that Alexander will return to operating as a long reliever, Jack Stern of BrewerFanatic.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The left-hander pitched well in his first start of the season with 5.2 scoreless innings, but he was less effective in the past two outings and surrendered eight runs (four earned) Monday against the Tigers. Jose Quintana recently joined the rotation while Tobias Myers (oblique) is finishing up a rehab assignment, as Milwaukee's rotation is regaining some pieces. Prospect Logan Henderson was called up Tuesday and could take Alexander's spot in the rotation this weekend versus the A's.

Alexander (1-1) took the loss Monday against the Tigers after giving up eight runs (four earned) on six hits and three walks in four innings. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
Alexander threw just one clean inning Monday, but his throwing error in the fourth inning at least resulted in each of Detroit's four runs scored in the frame to go unearned in the box score. Although the error also prevented his ERA from ballooning to a much higher figure, Alexander still holds a 4.32 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and a troublesome 14:10 K:BB over 16.2 innings (three starts) to begin the season. A banged-up Brewers pitching staff should keep the left-hander in the rotation for at least one more turn, and Alexander is tentatively scheduled to take the mound against the Athletics this weekend.

Alexander didn't factor in the decision against Colorado on Wednesday, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three batters over 3.2 innings.
EDGE Analysis
Alexander was handed a 5-0 lead through three frames, but he wasn't able to go deep enough to qualify for the victory. The southpaw didn't allow Colorado to catch up, though he yielded constant traffic on the basepaths -- the Rockies put multiple runners on base in each of the four frames in which Alexander pitched. After impressing with 5.2 scoreless innings his previous trip to the mound, this was a bit of a disappointing step back for Alexander, though it was far from a disastrous outing since Milwaukee ended up winning in a 17-2 rout. There's a good chance Alexander will stick in the rotation, at least in the short term, given that the Brewers have already been decimated by starting-pitcher injuries.

Alexander is slated to start Wednesday's game against the Rockies in Denver.
EDGE Analysis
Alexander made his first two appearances of the season out of the Milwaukee bullpen but was needed for a start last week in the wake of Aaron Civale's (hamstring) move to the injured list. The Brewers have since placed Nestor Cortes (elbow) on the IL and have acquired Quinn Priester to address their dwindling starting depth, but Alexander looks like he'll be sticking in the rotation for now over Elvin Rodriguez, who will presumably head to the bullpen this week after yielding 11 earned runs in nine innings over his two starts. Alexander earned a second turn through the rotation after striking out six over 5.2 scoreless innings last Friday in a win over the Reds, but he'll get a tougher draw Wednesday while pitching at altitude in hitter-friendly Coors Field.

Alexander (1-0) collected the win Friday, walking three and striking out six over 5.2 scoreless, no-hit innings in a 3-2 victory over the Reds.
EDGE Analysis
Pressed into starting duty for Milwaukee's injury-ravaged pitching staff, Alexander baffled Cincinnati hitters over 83 pitches (50 strikes) as he fell just shy of recording his first quality start since May 17 of last season. The veteran lefty likely earned himself another turn or two through the rotation with this performance, but his reward for Friday's effort is that he lines up for a road outing at Coors Field next week. Through nine innings to begin the season, Alexander sports a 2.00 ERA and 9:5 K:BB.

Alexander will be the Brewers' starting pitcher in Friday's game against the Reds, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
EDGE Analysis
Alexander's most recent of two relief appearances this season came Sunday, when he threw 47 pitches over 2.1 innings. While it won't be a traditional opener assignment, he will not be handling a full starter's workload Friday.

Alexander is likely to start Friday against the Reds, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Brewers are holding off announcing a probable pitcher for the game, likely because Alexander may be needed in relief before then. However, Alexander threw a bullpen session Wednesday, which points to him taking the ball Friday if he's not needed in relief Wednesday against the Royals or Thursday against the Reds. Alexander has made two relief appearances this season, most recently throwing 2.1 innings and 47 pitches Sunday, so the lefty is unlikely to be able to handle a full starter's workload Friday.

Alexander tossed a scoreless inning in Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Yankees. He allowed one hit and struck out one batter.
EDGE Analysis
Alexander did not have to wait long to make his first appearance with the Brewers, and he kept the opponent at bay with Milwaukee trailing 4-1 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning. Alexander figures to primarily serve as a long reliever, but he did extend up to 70 pitches during spring training and could be a candidate for a spot start, as the Brewers opened the season with only three true traditional starting pitchers on the 26-man roster.

The Brewers signed Alexander to a one-year contract Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Alexander was non-tendered by the Rays earlier this offseason but has managed to land on his feet with a major-league deal in Milwaukee. The left-hander split time between the rotation and bullpen last season with Tampa Bay, finishing with a 5.10 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 90:24 K:BB across 107.2 innings. The Brewers will have a vacancy in their rotation if Brandon Woodruff (shoulder) isn't ready to start the season, but it seems likelier that Alexander will wind up in the bullpen or perhaps a swingman role.
