Buttrey suffered an intercostal strain and will be sidelined for a week or two, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Joe Maddon revealed Buttrey's injury Saturday, but the right-hander is expected to be ready for Opening Day if his rehab goes smoothly. Buttrey saw his largest workload in the majors last season as he recorded a 3.98 ERA and 1.27 WHIP over 72.1 innings, and he figures to play a prominent role in the Angels' bullpen in 2020 once he's healthy.

Buttrey was charged with three runs on two hits in 0.2 innings pitched in Friday's loss to the White Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Buttrey entered the game with one on and no outs in the eight inning and then loaded the bases before White Sox catcher James McCann jacked a grand slam to make it a 7-2 game. Buttrey did get two outs before yielding to Trevor Cahill. Buttrey has allowed eight runs over his last seven appearances (7.1 innings), inflating his ERA from 3.12 to 3.83 in that span. The set-up man has earned 20 holds and two saves while amassing a 6-5 record across 55 appearances.

Buttrey (6-5) recorded only one out and allowed two runs on two hits, taking the loss in Saturday's 8-7 loss to the Orioles.
EDGE Analysis
Buttrey allowed a single to Jonathan Villar and hit Stevie Wilkerson with a pitch to start his appearance. Both runners scored on a Hanser Alberto single that ultimately put the Orioles ahead for good, while Jose Rodriguez was called on relieve Buttrey. The set-up man has been shaky lately, allowing five runs over his last five innings. For the year, Buttrey has a 3.12 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 57:12 K:BB in 49 innings. The right-hander has also earned 18 holds.

Buttrey (6-4) earned the win Saturday, striking out the side in the eighth inning of a 6-2 win over the Mariners.
EDGE Analysis
Buttrey did his part to keep the game tied, and then became the pitcher of record as the Angels' bats exploded for four runs in the ninth inning. Buttrey has a 2.54 ERA and 1.15 WHIP over 46 innings this season, accumulating 56 strikeouts, two saves and 17 holds as the Angels' usual eighth-inning reliever.

Buttrey surrendered two runs on four hits while striking out one over his lone inning of relief Sunday in the Angels' 11-10 loss to the Astros.
EDGE Analysis
Buttrey retired the side in the bottom of the seventh when the game was tied 8-8 and would have been in line for the win after the Angels plated two runs in the top of the eighth. However, he proceeded to allow four consecutive singles in the bottom of the eighth to squander the lead before closer Hansel Robles came on to clean up the mess. In spite of the poor outing, Buttrey heads into the All-Star break with a tidy 2.57 ERA and 50:12 K:BB in 42 innings, locking him in as Robles' top setup man.

Buttrey took a blown save in Wednesday's win over the Athletics after surrendering two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out one over 1.2 innings.
EDGE Analysis
Buttrey entered the game in the seventh inning with the Angels leading 8-7. Despite a wild pitch and a single, Buttrey got though the frame unscathed. Trouble soon came in the eighth as the 26-year-old gave up two runs and was replaced by Hansel Robles for the final out. The blown save was Buttrey's second of the season. Through 31 innings, he owns a 1.74 ERA and 1.10 WHIP with two saves.

Buttrey (3-2) pitched 1.1 innings, allowing two walks and striking out three to earn the win in Tuesday's 6-4 win over the Athletics.
EDGE Analysis
Buttrey became the pitcher of record when Shohei Ohtani hit a two-run single in the top of the ninth inning. Buttrey has a sparkling 1.30 ERA and 1.08 WHIP through 25 appearances this season, accumulating two saves, 35 strikeouts and 10 holds over his 27.2 innings.

Buttrey allowed a hit and a walk over 1.2 scoreless innings Saturday while striking out three to record his second save of the season in a 6-3 win over the Royals.
EDGE Analysis
Hansel Robles has seen the bulk of the work as the Angels' closer over the last few weeks, but Buttrey has been just as effective in high-leverage spots, reeling off eight straight scoreless appearances with a 13:1 K:BB over 10.2 innings during that stretch. So far, however, both of Buttrey's saves have come when Robles pitched the day before, making the pecking order in the team's bullpen clear.

Buttrey allowed two hits while striking out two through two innings to record his first save in a 6-3 win over the Blue Jays on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Buttrey has been used as a high-leverage option recently and was effective in two innings to nail down his first save of the season. Even though he is a candidate for saves, the Angels are unlikely to use a traditional closer's role. The 26-year-old has a 1.13 ERA and a 21:3 K:BB through 16 innings.

Buttrey (1-1) was charged with the blown save and the loss Wednesday against the Yankees. He allowed one earned run on two hits and zero walks while striking out three over 2.2 innings.
EDGE Analysis
Buttrey was called upon to put out a fire in the seventh inning, and he did limit the damage to a large extent, though he allowed a couple inherited runners to score on a sacrifice fly and a fielder's choice and thus was stuck with the blown save. He stayed in the game and tried to keep it tied all the way through nine, but this sequence unfolded with two outs in the ninth inning: single, stolen base, bloop RBI single. The Angels' bats couldn't rally against Aroldis Chapman in the bottom of the frame and so Buttrey took the loss as well. Cody Allen was removed from the closer role and Buttrey is a top candidate for save chances along with Hansel Robles. We like Buttrey more, but it's clear that manager Brad Ausmus will use Buttrey in what he feels is the biggest spot in the late innings -- not necessarily the ninth.
