Swaggerty will start the 2021 campaign with Triple-A Indianapolis, DK Pittsburgh Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
He will be making the jump from High-A to Triple-A without spending time at Double-A Altoona. General manager Ben Cherington believes Swaggerty's time at the alternate site last year and in April constitutes a Double-A equivalency. In fact, the general manager noted that Swaggerty was one of the most consistent players at the alternative site. With the major-league team bereft of outfield talent, it wouldn't be surprising to see the 2018 first-round pick make his debut in Pittsburgh this summer. He slashed .265/.347/.381 with nine homers and 23 stolen bases in 524 plate appearances for High-A Bradenton in 2019.

Swaggerty will join the Pirates' big-league camp this spring.
EDGE Analysis
If not for the canceled minor-league season last year, Swaggerty could already be knocking on the door of a big-league job. He probably won't be given serious consideration for an Opening Day roster spot given that he's yet to play above High-A, but he could push for a spot by the time the year is up if he builds on his strong season at that level in 2019, in which he hit .265/.347/.381 and stole 23 bases.

The Pirates announced Sunday that Swaggerty will be included as one of 19 players on the team's taxi squad for the 2020 season, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The members of the taxi squad will begin training at the Pirates' Double-A facility in Altoona in the near future and will be on hand to provide depth as needed for the MLB club during the 60-game slate. One of the Pirates' top outfield prospects, Swaggerty hasn't played above the High-A level and would presumably only be used by the big club in an emergency. His inclusion on the taxi squad is likely just a measure by the organization to oversee his development more closely in the event the 2020 minor-league season is cancelled.

Swaggerty will open the year with High-A Bradenton, Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
He excelled in the New York-Penn League after the Pirates selected him with the 10th overall pick in last year's draft, but his production fell off in a 16-game run at Low-A. Nevertheless, the Pirates like what they have in Swaggerty, so he will get the benefit of the doubt with an aggressive assignment to the Florida State League. If he can improve upon last year's 25.3 percent strikeout rate, the power and speed production should be pretty enticing.

The Pirates have promoted Swaggerty from their short-season New York-Penn League affiliate to Low-A West Virginia, Shane Hennigan of MiLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
It didn't take long for the 10th overall pick in the 2018 first-year player draft to earn his first promotion, as Swaggerty proved no match for the New York-Penn League after slashing .288/.365/.453 with 13 extra-base hits in 36 games. The 20-year-old outfielder seems likely to finish out the campaign at Low-A before eyeing an assignment at High-A Bradenton to begin the 2019 season.
