A second-round pick by Atlanta in 2010, he hit just .261/.325/.337 in 97 games with Triple-A Gwinnett this season and disappointed further in a 39-game look with the big club. It's hard to imagine Cunningham will push for anything more than a reserve role in spring training, if he even survives Rule 5 roster cuts.

Cunningham will return after just two days away from the major league club. With the Triple-A season now concluded, he'll likely finish out the year as an outfield depth option for the Braves. If Cameron Maybin (eye) continues to miss time, Cunningham could find his way into some sporadic playing time in center field.

Cunningham was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday. The former second round pick has bounced between Triple-A and the majors all season, performing admirably enough in both places. In 26 games with the Braves, he hit for a .239/.299/.296 slash line and provided depth at all three outfield spots. He will try and work his way back to Atlanta at some point this season.

Cunningham is out of the lineup Sunday against the Giants. The hot start Cunningham enjoyed upon being called up from Triple-A Gwinnett has essentially fizzled out at this point, as he's gone 0-for-12 over the last three games to drop his batting average to a more earthly .250. While Jonny Gomes' career success against Madison Bumgarner (6-for-8, two homers) likely has more to do with his presence in the lineup than Cunningham's struggles, Gomes could see starts more regularly if Cunningham fails to heat up in the near future.

Cunningham is out of the lineup Saturday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's David O'Brien reports. He has been the quasi starter in left field for the Braves with Kelly Johnson out, but Jonny Gomes will get the start Saturday. Cunningham has one hit over his last 11 at-bats and five strikeouts over that span.

Cunningham went 2-for-4 with a run scored in Sunday's win over the Marlins. In three starts over the weekend Cunningham had three multi-hit games. His minor league track record (and relative advanced age for a rookie) suggest that he'll cool off soon. He had a .708 OPS for Triple-A Gwinnett before his promotion, a figure that's right in line with the extent of his minor league career.

Cunningham will earn his third consecutive start in left field Sunday against the Marlins, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Three-hit performances in the first two games of the series will lock Cunningham in the Braves' lineup for the time being. It may be worthwhile for those in NL-only leagues looking for players getting regular at-bats to keep tabs on the switch-hitting outfielder, but Cunningham will need to maintain this level of play over a larger sample before warranting intrigue in shallower formats.

It was a big night for Cunningham who was just recalled Thursday when Kelly Johnson was placed on the disabled list. He hadn't appeared in a major league game since August of 2013, but he might see some time in the Braves lineup while they are short-handed in the outfield.
