Locastro is expected to claim a bench spot when the regular season begins, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gilbert calls Locastro a lock to make the roster, which seems a given, but manager Torey Lovullo hasn't made such a proclamation. The speedy outfielder was a spark for the Diamondbacks in 2019, getting on base at .357 clip and stealing 17 bases. Locastro also has a freakish ability to get hit by pitches, a category in which he ranked fourth with 22 over 91 games. He'll serve as a fourth outfielder and could develop a larger role should an injury hit one of the projected outfielder starters.

Locastro batted leadoff and went 2-for-3 in Monday's spring game against San Francisco.
EDGE Analysis
Locastro is lining up to be the Diamondbacks' fourth outfielder, but he can be helpful in the pesky category of steals while playing a limited role. He led the league in sprint speed (30.8 feet per second) last season and used that skill to swipe 17 bags in 250 plate appearances.

Locastro went 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI, a stolen base and two runs scored in Wednesday's 9-7 win over the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
Locastro ignited the Diamondbacks' two-run first inning with a leadoff double and later swiped his 17th base of the season. He's not been caught yet while attempting to steal. Locastro has been part of the crew filling in for Ketel Marte (back) in center field and made his first start in five games. One member of that crew, Abraham Almonte, was removed from Wednesday's game with a hamstring injury. As such, there could be more opportunities over the final days of the regular season for Locastro, whose propensity to attempt steals could be useful.

Locastro started in center field and went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts in a 9-0 win over the Padres on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
With Ketel Marte (back) officially shut down for the season, Locastro filled in for him in center field and as the team's leadoff hitter against San Diego left-hander Eric Lauer. Locastro and Jarrod Dyson figure to platoon to finish out the season in center field. Locastro can be source of stolen bases -- he's swiped 16 in 232 plate appearances -- for those in need of that category.

Locastro served as a pinch runner and stole a base in Saturday's 2-0 win over the Reds.
EDGE Analysis
While Locastro hasn't been in the starting lineup for the last five games, he is serving as a pinch runner and late-game defensive replacement. That has given him the opportunity to swipe bases as a pinch runner in each of the last two games, giving him 15 steals in 80 games (215 plate appearnces). On a per plate appearance level, Locastro ranks fourth with a steal every 14.33 appearances, trailing only Adalberto Mondesi (10.49), Mallex Smith (13.06) and teammate Jarrod Dyson (14.21). Opportunity will be the issue for Locastro, who is working in a bench role while Josh Rojas fills in at left field for the injured David Peralta (shoulder).

Locastro entered Tuesday's game after starter Ketel Marte was removed with a hamstring injury. He walked in his only plate appearance and scored a run in a 3-2 win over San Francisco.
EDGE Analysis
Marte hurt his hamstring while rounding the bases on a home run and said he should be ready Thursday following Wednesday's off day. Locastro is an occasional starter against left-handers and has stolen 12 bags in 72 games. With David Peralta's season-ending shoulder surgery, there should be more opportunities for the speedy outfielder through the remainder of the season.

Locastro was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Locastro was called up to provide depth in the Diamondbacks' outfield after David Peralta (shoulder) was placed on the injured list. He is not in Saturday's lineup and may not get regular at-bats, though he's swiped 11 bases in just 68 games with Arizona this season.

Locastro was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Locastro has seen a drop in his role and performance since the calendar turned to August, as he's hitting just .176 with a .476 OPS in nine games (three starts) this month. The 27-year-old should return when rosters expand in September after seeing regular playing time in the minors. Stefan Crichton was summoned from the minors in a corresponding move.

Locastro went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 7-5 loss to the Yankees.
EDGE Analysis
Locastro started in place of the resting Adam Jones and popped his first home run in the majors. Power is not the outfielder's calling card; Locastro hit just 36 bombs across seven minor-league seasons (592 games).

Locastro will start in left field and bat leadoff Monday against the Marlins.
EDGE Analysis
Six of Locastro's last eight starts have come out of the leadoff spot, but the speedster's status as a short-side platoon player makes him difficult to justify including in lineups during weeks the Diamondbacks aren't facing a spate of left-handed starting pitchers. He'll at least make for a decent punt play in DFS contests while setting the table for Arizona against Marlins southpaw Caleb Smith. Locastro boasts a .365 on-base percentage on the season and has gone a perfect 9-for-9 on stolen-base attempts.
