Bibee (1-1) took the loss Monday, allowing four runs on seven hits and four walks over 3.2 innings during a 6-2 defeat to the Tigers. He struck out two.

After not walking a batter in his first two appearances of the campaign, Bibee allowed four free passes Monday and also surrendered season highs in hits (seven) and runs allowed (four). Aaron Civale (oblique) is starting to throw again, but he'll likely have to make a couple rehab assignments before he's activated off the injured list, so despite his poor outing, Bibee should still get a few more turns in the rotation. His next start is tentatively scheduled for a three-game weekend set versus the Angels.

Bibee didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Yankees, giving up two runs on four hits over 5.1 innings. He struck out five without walking a batter.

EDGE Analysis

Making his second career MLB start, Bibee was unfazed by pitching in Yankee Stadium and blanked New York for five innings before fellow rookie Anthony Volpe tagged him for a homer in the bottom of the sixth. Bibee has been outstanding since his promotion, posting a 13:0 K:BB through his first 11 big-league innings, and he'll look to keep rolling in a home start early next week against the Tigers.

Bibee is scheduled to make his second start for the Guardians on Tuesday in New York against the Yankees.

EDGE Analysis

At least while both Aaron Civale (oblique) and Triston McKenzie (shoulder) remain on the injured list, the Guardians will keep spots open in the rotation for two of their top pitching prospects in Bibee and Logan Allen. Bibee earned himself another turn after a highly impressive MLB debut last Wednesday against the Rockies in which he struck out eight while allowing one earned run on six hits and no walks across 5.2 innings en route to picking up a win.

Bibee was scratched from his scheduled start with Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday and instead could be called up to make his MLB debut with the Guardians on Wednesday versus the Rockies, Joe Noga of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

EDGE Analysis

Bibee has posted a 1.76 ERA and 19:8 K:BB over 15.1 innings through his first three starts for Columbus. The move to Triple-A hasn't fazed Bibee, who broke out in 2022 while logging a 2.17 ERA and 167:27 K:BB across 132.2 frames between High-A Lake County and Double-A Akron. The Guardians will likely wait and see how Tuesday's game plays out before deciding on a starter for Wednesday, but if Bibee does in fact get the nod, he could make for a solid streaming option in a favorable matchup at Progressive Field. If Bibee starts and pitches well Wednesday, he could have a chance to stick around in the rotation on a more permanent basis.

Bibee is opening the year with Triple-A Columbus, MLB.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Per the report, Gavin Williams will be opening the year at Double-A Akron, so Bibee is the current favorite to be the first of the duo to reach the majors in 2023. While Bibee is a highly-touted prospect, he may have to bide his time for a couple months, as evidenced by the team's decision to go with Hunter Gaddis in wake of the Triston McKenzie shoulder injury. In addition to Gaddis, the Guardians have rotation candidates Konnor Pilkington and Joey Cantillo on the 40-man roster. Logan Allen is a non-40-man candidate due to his strong spring and experience at Triple-A last year.

Bibee has put up a 1.29 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 57:9 K:BB through 55.2 innings in 10 starts since his promotion to Double-A Akron.

EDGE Analysis

Those are spectacular returns, though they come with the caveat that Bibee hasn't struck out nearly as many hitters as he did while cruising through High-A -- his K/9 at the lower level was 13.1, and it's 9.3 in Double-A. The other caveat is that Bibee is a 23-year-old college arm in his first professional season. That said, he's touched 99 mph with his fastball this year, and there's certainly room for that in the big leagues. Bibee's ultimate role remains an open question, but he's showing great command of good stuff, and that makes him an intriguing dynasty prospect.

The Guardians promoted Bibee from High-A Lake County to Double-A Akron on Saturday.

He'll be making his Double-A debut Thursday after a productive 12-start run at Lake County in his first action as a professional. Bibee, a fifth-round selection in the 2021 first-year player draft, submitted a 2.59 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 86:13 K:BB in 59 innings at the High-A level.
