Fairchild was added to the Diamondbacks' 40-man roster Friday.

Fairchild was dealt from the Reds to the Diamondbacks at the trade deadline in 2020, and he'll be shielded from the Rule 5 draft as part of the 40-man roster. The 24-year-old could make his major-league at some point in 2020 if he continues to progress.

One of the Reds' top prospects, Fairchild logged a 142 wRC+ at Double-A last season, albeit as a 23-year-old. He could be big-league ready sometime next season and is capable of handling all three outfield spots. He has average or better raw power and above-average speed. Fairchild walked (10.6 BB%) almost as much as he struck out (12.8 K%) last year at Double-A.

Fairchild is the Reds' best outfield prospect from the upper levels of the minors. However, he will not be training with the Reds' best players at Great American Ball Park and is unlikely to get much, if any, MLB playing time this season given the Reds' outfield depth.

Fairchild will work with the big-league coaching staff but probably isn't quite ready to be considered for a roster spot. He's yet to reach Triple-A, though he looked good in 42 games at Double-A Chattanooga, hitting .275/.380/.444.
