Steven Matz Bounces Back on Tuesday rotoballer.com Tue 8/21/18 8:05 PM

New York Mets left-hander Steven Matz gave his team a solid outing on Tuesday against the San Francisco Giants. Matz tossed five innings, allowing two runs on two hits to go along with five strikeouts. He was forced to settle for a no-decision. However, this was a much better performance than Matz showed his last two times out, in which he allowed 13 runs in less than three total innings. The southpaw will likely toe the rubber next time out against the Washington Nationals on Sunday.

Welcome back, RotoBallers, hopefully all your teams are right in the thick of things as we prepare for the fantasy baseball home stretch! As always, we're here to try and help with your daily/weekly lineups. I'm filling in for the regular @Roto_Dubs this week, as he has "real life" stuff to attend to. For those who aren't familiar, this is our fifth year now writing this weekly column, helping fantasy baseball managers pick the best pitchers weekly. Below are the projected starting pitching[...]

Steven Matz Struggles in Return to Rotation rotoballer.com Fri 8/17/18 5:55 AM

New York Mets left-hander Steven Matz had a rough outing on Thursday against the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 2 of a doubleheader. Matz lasted just two innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on five hits. He struck out two. The southpaw needed 58 pitches to complete the two innings, and it was clear he was rusty in his return. Even before his injury, Matz was not in great form. In his last four starts, Matz sports a 1-3 record with an ugly 13.17 ERA. Matz will likely take the mound next week[...]

Week 21 Waiver Wire: H2H Category Streamers rotoballer.com Fri 8/17/18 3:00 AM

I like to consider myself a pioneer of the streaming approach. I won a league about seven years ago by completely ignoring saves and just stacking up the starts each week. While streaming is undoubtedly more directly associated with pitching, there's plenty of value in streaming for offense as well. Maybe you have a stacked roster and you can't drop anyone. But for those of us with a couple of guys on the roster fringes, it's never too early to look into targeting a specific player or two to [...]

Steven Matz Activated From DL, Starting Game 2 rotoballer.com Thu 8/16/18 3:55 PM

The New York Mets activated starting pitcher Steven Matz (arm) from the disabled list on Thursday, and he will start Game 2 of a doubleheader against the Phillies. Reliever Tim Peterson was optioned to the minors in a corresponding move. The left-handed Matz gave up seven runs and didn't make it out of the first inning in his last start against the Nats on July 31. He hasn't missed much time, but throwing him right back into the fire against a team battling for the division isn't the smartest [...]

Steven Matz On Track To Return Thursday rotoballer.com Sat 8/11/18 1:36 PM

New York Mets starting pitcher Steven Matz (arm) threw three innings (56 pitches) in a simulated game on Saturday and is on track to return from the disabled list and start one of the games of a doubleheader on Thursday. That means he'd be returning to face the first-place Phillies. It wouldn't be a great spot to throw Matz back into the fire, especially since he didn't even make it out of the first inning in his last start against the Nationals before landing on the DL. Overall, Matz is 5-9 wi[...]

Steven Matz Could Return Next Thursday rotoballer.com Fri 8/10/18 12:42 PM

New York Mets starting pitcher Steven Matz (arm) will throw a simulated game on Saturday and will then be re-evaluated for a possible start in Thursday's doubleheader against the Phillies. The left-hander was blown up for seven runs in two-thirds of an inning in his last start July 31 before landing on the disabled list, but he's been pretty decent for the Mets this year (4.35 ERA, 1.34 [...]

Steven Matz To Miss Another Start rotoballer.com Tue 8/7/18 12:48 PM

New York Mets starting pitcher Steven Matz (forearm) is expected to miss another start, and Corey Oswalt will take another turn in the rotation in his place. However, the Mets are optimistic about Matz, who recently threw a bullpen. He's gone 5-9 with a 4.35 ERA, 1.34 [...]

Steven Matz Throwing Bullpen Session rotoballer.com Mon 8/6/18 12:14 PM

New York Mets starting pitcher Steven Matz (arm) will throw a bullpen session on Monday. The Mets are going to wait and see how he feels on Tuesday before deciding what to do next. Matz went down last week, but there is a chance that he could return as early as this week. Corey Oswalt will continue to pitch in the starting rotation until Matz is ready to return.
