Arrighetti produced a baseline quality start, but he faded late by giving up a solo shot to James Outman in the fifth inning and a two-run blast to Gavin Lux in the sixth. This was the first time in four starts Arrighetti was tagged for multiple home runs. On the bright side, he's gone at least six innings in four of his last six starts, and he's limited opponents to three runs or less in three of those games. Arrighetti avoided walking multiple batters for the first time in four starts, but the Athletics were able to get to him in the third and fourth innings. The 24-year-old right-hander has been more good than bad lately, allowing four or more runs in just three of his nine outings since the start of June. He's pitched to a 5.65 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 96:45 K:BB through 86 innings over 18 starts this season. Arrighetti's next start is projected to be a tough home matchup against the Dodgers.

Arrighetti came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 2-1 extra-inning loss to the Rangers, allowing one run on two hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out seven.

The rookie right-hander needed 85 pitches (53 strikes) to produce his third quality start of the season as he got locked in a pitchers' duel with Nathan Eovaldi. Arrighetti has had his moments, but he's been very erratic this season, and since the beginning of June he has only one win in eight outings with a 5.20 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 42:21 K:BB through 36.1 innings. Those numbers are good enough to keep him in the rotation coming out of the All-Star break, but Arrighetti could eventually lose his spot if Houston adds significant reinforcements to its staff, either from the injured list or at the trade deadline.

Five of the six hits Arrighetti allowed went for extra bases, including a three-run home run to George Springer and a solo homer to Spencer Horwitz, both of which came in the third inning. Tuesday's outing came on the back of the rookie's best start of 2024 when he blanked the Rockies across seven innings. Arrighetti has surrendered six or more runs three times this season and has walked multiple batters in all but one of his appearances, owning a 6.13 ERA overall. He's on track to close out a two-start week Sunday in Minnesota.

Arrighetti (4-6) picked up the win Wednesday, scattering three hits over seven scoreless innings in a 7-1 victory over the Rockies. He struck out 10 without walking a batter.

EDGE Analysis

The rookie right-hander put together the best effort of his brief career, setting a new career high in Ks while generating an eye-popping 35 called or swinging strikes among his 89 pitches. The quality start was only Arrighetti's second in 14 trips to the mound this season, but he has given up three runs or less in six of his last seven outings, posting a 4.18 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 39:18 K:BB through 32.1 innings over that stretch. He'll look to build on this performance in his next start, which lines up to come on the road early next week in Toronto.

Arrighetti navigated through four scoreless innings despite allowing at least one baserunner in each of those frames. The rookie's tightrope act came to an end in the fifth, however, as the White Sox put four runners on base (on three hits and a walk) before he could get his second out. Arrighetti has now completed fewer than five frames in three of his past four starts, and walks have been a major issue for him, as he's issued 12 free passes over 14.1 innings during that span.
