Holds Leagues - Waiver Wire Pickups and Adds for Week 22 rotoballer.com Fri 8/24/18 3:30 AM
While holds are even tougher to predict than saves, the players we'll highlight today include some elite setup men to target off the waiver wire in Week 22.
One-inning middle relievers are the constant sources for holds and specialists can manage to secure a hold even with one out. However, while specialists can get many holds, their fantasy value is limited to how effective they are in their specific role. Long relievers are not a strong source of holds, they are often used in emergency or m[...]
Week 20 MLB Closers and Saves Report rotoballer.com Fri 8/10/18 3:45 AM
The dust finally settled after the trade deadline, and teams are starting to set their bullpens and pitching rotations up for the stretch run. Things can still change with waiver claims and post-deadline waiver trades, but any big names that were going to move already have. Brad Hand is settling in nicely in the Cleveland bullpen, Brad Ziegler is having a hard time in Arizona, and Brandon Kintzler hasn't allowed a run as a Cub yet.
In non-deadline news, we saw a fill-in closer get hurt, so no[...]
Week 19 MLB Closers and Saves Report rotoballer.com Fri 8/3/18 3:45 AM
With the non-waiver trade deadline now a few days behind us, we can confidently say: "a lot happened." But, seemingly more so than other trade deadlines in previous seasons, this time around we can also say: "a lot didn't happen."
Zach Britton changed teams, to a team that absolutely no one suspected. Brad Hand changed teams. Also to a team not very highly suspected, and to a role much more confusing than his previous one. Keone Kela moved, but Shane Greene stayed put. Kyle Barraclough stayed[...]
Trading Up: Mid-Tier and Bargain Buys (Pitchers) rotoballer.com Mon 7/16/18 3:30 AM
This article is the third in our series on trade targets for the second half of the season. Part 1 focused on players generally ranked in the top 50. Part 2 focused on mid-tier and bargain targets for offense. This installment focuses on pitchers ranked outside the top 50. Part four will focus on players to target for specific categories rather than positional improvement.
For these pitchers, I've included both ownership levels and consensus rank (CR) to indicate their current valuation and r[...]
Seth Lugo Gets Win In Relief On Wednesday rotoballer.com Thu 7/5/18 7:36 AM
New York Mets pitcher Seth Lugo was recently switched back from the starting rotation to the bullpen, but he's not letting that stop him from picking up victories. In a 6-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday, Lugo pitched three innings in relief, earning the [...]
Seth Lugo Doomed By Errors In Loss To Pirates rotoballer.com Tue 6/26/18 5:28 AM
New York Mets starting pitcher Seth Lugo has struggled as of late, and while he wasn't bad on Monday against the Pittsburgh Pirates, he also wasn't as great as we saw him look about three starts ago. Across five innings pitched in a 6-4 loss, Lugo allowed three runs (only one earned) on four hits and three walks with four strikeouts. It wasn't Lugo's best outing regardless, but he was done in by two errors from the normally sure-handed Luis Guillorme (who is a second baseman by trade) at third b[...]
Seth Lugo Looks To Emerge Against Pirates Monday rotoballer.com Mon 6/25/18 11:30 AM
On June 10, New York Mets starting pitcher Seth Lugo was looking like he was ready to take on the world after blanking the New York Yankees across six innings pitched with eight strikeouts. In his two starts since, however, he's allowed five and six runs (three earned), on the road against the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies, respectively. On Monday, Lugo and the Mets are at home to take on the Pittsburgh Pirates in a matchup that Lugo should be able to manipulate. [...]
Seth Lugo Gets Rocked In Colorado rotoballer.com Thu 6/21/18 5:39 AM
New York Mets pitcher Seth Lugo pleasantly surprised just about everyone with how well he pitched upon entering the rotation for the injured Noah Syndergaard, but his results have taken a turn for the worst over his last two outings. After allowing five earned runs in five innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks on June 15, Lugo surrendered six runs (but only three earned) across three innings pitched on [...]
Mets Evaluating Seth Lugo’s Role After Great Performance rotoballer.com Mon 6/11/18 6:00 AM
New York Mets pitcher Seth Lugo dominated the best offense in baseball on Sunday night in a spot start, the New York Yankees, and after pitching successfully out of the bullpen all year it's about time his role is reconsidered. According to manager Mickey Callaway, Lugo is "making a case" for a role in the Mets' starting rotation. With a 1.77 ERA, 0.85 [...]
