Marshall (shoulder) is rehabbing his surgically repaired shoulder 1 1/2 to 2 hours daily. "I can lift it up," Marshall said. "Most of the pain is gone. I think I'm ahead of schedule." Part of Marshall's surgery included an infusion of stem cells designed to accelerate the healing process. Marshall is hoping that his progress mirrors that of the Brewers' Tom Gorzelanny, who had a similar procedure.

Sean Marshall will undergo surgery Tuesday to debride his left shoulder. The Reds haven't revealed how long Marshall will be sidelined after the procedure, but it will surely be a season-ending operation. Marshall held a 7.71 ERA before landing on the DL last week and has been limited to just 31 appearances over the last two seasons due to shoulder issues. He's slated to earn $6.5 million from the Reds next season.

Reds placed LHP Sean Marshall on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 21, with left shoulder inflammation. Marshall battled more shoulder issues this spring after dealing with them for much of last season. However, he's been throwing off a mound and should be ready to rejoin the bullpen in a few weeks.

Sean Marshall (shoulder) faced hitters Wednesday for the first time this spring. Marshall threw live batting practice, and Reds manager Bryan Price said the session went well. The southpaw was bothered by shoulder soreness earlier in spring but he appears past that at this point. He's still be a few weeks behind his teammates in terms of readiness for the season -- he'll almost certainly begin the season on the disabled list -- but Marshall should be back with the club before too long.
