Doolittle now holds a 1.93 ERA over his last 14 innings of work along with an impressive 0.86 WHIP. He's also struck out 18 batters during that span giving him a 10.7 K/9 on the season. The 29-year-old's solid production has earned him plenty of work in late-inning situations as he is now tied with John Axford for the team-lead in holds with six. While the lefty's role in currently reserved primarily for seventh and eighth inning situations, he would be a likely candidate to take over closing duties if Ryan Madson were to lose the job.

Doolittle threw a scoreless inning with two strikeouts Tuesday night against the Tigers.

EDGE Analysis

Doolittle was sitting 94-95 mph on his fastball and even touched 96 mph during his outing on Tuesday. His fastball seemed to be jumping out of his hand better than it has so far this season, a positive sign as he tries to regain his form of 2014. Doolittle only has two saves on the season compared to Ryan Madson's seven, but he still should be in line for some save opportunities going forward depending on match-ups.

Doolittle gave up a walk and a hit while recording the final out of the eighth inning in Friday's 8-5 win over the Blue Jays.

EDGE Analysis

Manager Bob Melvin said after the game that the closer situation still remains matchup-based, although Ryan Madson, who recorded his seventh save of the season Friday, appears to be the guy to own, as he also boasts better rate stats than Doolittle. That said, Doolittle could still continue to compile occasional saves, so in deeper leagues where all saves are at a premium, he should remain rostered for now.

Doolittle allowed a solo homer to Eric Hosmer on Friday night, his third homer allowed over his first 5.1 innings of the season.

EDGE Analysis

Doolittle has never allowed more than five homers in any season, but is struggling mightily with the gopher ball to begin 2016. All three homers have been on fastballs located in the middle of the plate as batters look to be sitting fastball and not respecting Doolittle's breaking balls. Doolittle has always gotten by throwing a majority of fastballs, but will need to rediscover his ability to locate the pitch if he wants to return to his prior dominant form.

Doolittle (1-2) did little to help his cause in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Angels, picking up a loss and blowing a save by allowing two earned runs on two hits and a walk in the top of the ninth inning.

EDGE Analysis

Doolittle seemed to be rolling with a win and a save in his last two appearances, but that progress came to a screeching halt in this one. As far as Oakland's alternative closer options go, Ryan Madson gave up two earned runs in the eighth inning himself while John Axford got through the seventh unscathed. The Athletics will presumably stick with Doolittle for now, but he can't afford a prolonged slump.

Doolittle came on to shut the door on the Mariners in the 10th inning Sunday, striking out a pair and allowing one hit in a scoreless frame to earn his first save of the season.

EDGE Analysis

Doolittle earned a win as he was used in a high-leverage situation Friday, and Sunday's save indicates that he is presently the man with the game on the line. As such, he is the player to own in the Oakland bullpen.

Doolittle took the loss to the White Sox on Tuesday after giving up a solo home run to Jimmy Rollins in the ninth inning.

EDGE Analysis

The left-hander retired Austin Jackson and Adam Eaton to start the frame, but then left a pitch right over the middle of the plate to Rollins, who put it over the left field wall for the go-ahead run. David Robertson closed things out for Chicago, sending Oakland to its second straight one-run loss to begin the season. Doolittle, the A's closer, pitched a scoreless inning with one hit allowed and one strikeout in the opener.

EDGE Analysis

After a spring which featured a triceps injury, it was a good sign to see Doolittle on the hill during the opener. Most importantly, his velocity looked good as he was sitting around 92 mph and even hit 94 n his final pitch. Doolittle has been working hard on his breaking stuff to complement his heater and was able to get his strikeout on an 84 mph change-up.

Doolittle returned to the mound Saturday, throwing a 1-2-3 inning against the Royals on only six pitches.

EDGE Analysis

This was Doolittle first appearance since Mach 13th when he experience tightness in his left triceps. It is a great sign for Doolittle that he appears to have avoided anything serious and he should be on track to open the season on the active roster assuming he gets through he next few outings with no issues. If healthy, Doolittle will start the year as the A's closer.

Doolittle's triceps condition continues to improve as he was able to ramp up his activity and get into a game Wednesday just two days after throwing a bullpen session. He reportedly mixed in some of his offspeed and breaking pitches, which further underlines his comfort level. Doolittle should be on track to be ready for Opening Day and his next appearance this spring will be in a major league game.
