Scott Rolen will have his left shoulder examined by team physician Dr. Tim Kremchek on Wednesday. We should know more about his status following the examination, but Rolen will not be ready to return from the disabled list when he's eligible Friday. Miguel Cairo and Todd Frazier will continue to share playing time at the hot corner for the time being.

A report from the Associated Press says that Scott Rolen "can't lift his left shoulder very far." Rolen landed on the DL Friday due to inflammation in his left shoulder and the left side of his neck. The third baseman has had shoulder problems for years, and this specific issue gave him fits in the second half last season and on two occasions this year. He received injections the first time around to help the malady clear up, but at this time an additional injection is not planned. Rolen said Saturday that he won't swing a bat for a while. A timetable for his return is up in the air.

Reds placed 3B Scott Rolen on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 21, with a strained left shoulder. Rolen had missed two of the previous three games. He had the same injury when he was placed on the disabled list in late-April, so the lingering soreness is a pretty good explanation for his lousy .242/.279/.397 batting line. Miguel Cairo will make the start at the hot corner Friday, though Todd Frazier figures to get some playing time.

Scott Rolen (shoulder) is not in the Reds' Friday evening lineup against the Braves. Miguel Cairo will start in his place. Not a good sign after Rolen returned to the lineup on Wednesday after sitting out two games. It's quite possible a trip to the disabled list is looming.

Scott Rolen (shoulder) is back in the Reds' lineup Wednesday against the Pirates. As expected. Rolen missed the previous two games in order to rest his sore left shoulder.

Scott Rolen (shoulder) is expected to return to the Reds' lineup Wednesday. Rolen was held out of the lineup for the past two days in order to rest his sore left shoulder. "It's gonna be [sore]," said Reds manager Dusty Baker. "It's gonna be probably until he retires." Hardly encouraging words from the Reds' skipper, but also a dose of reality. Rolen, 36, is batting just .242 with five homers and a .678 OPS in 265 plate appearances this season. It's been tough to get production out of third base this season, particularly in the National League, but Rolen's days of relevancy in mixed leagues are quickly dwindling.

Scott Rolen replaced Placido Polanco as starting third baseman on the National League All-Star Team. There weren't many great options this year at the hot corner in the National League. David Wright and Ryan Zimmerman have been plagued with injuries all season, and Chipper Jones had knee surgery this weekend.
