Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Red Sox have called up outfielder Scott Podsednik from Triple-A Pawtucket. Not a big surprise, as both Cody Ross (foot) and Ryan Sweeney (concussion) are expected to be placed on the disabled list Tuesday. Podsednik, who was acquired from the Phillies earlier this month, is hitting .323 (10-for-31) with one homer and two stolen bases over his first nine games with the PawSox. The 36-year-old outfielder hasn't appeared in the majors since 2010 as a member of the Dodgers.

Red Sox acquired OF Scott Podsednik from the Phillies for cash considerations. Podsednik will be assigned to Triple-A Pawtucket and retains his right to opt out of his contract if he's not in the majors by June 1. The 36-year-old outfielder was hitting .203/.289/.216 with six steals in 83 plate appearances with Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He's unlikely to make a major impact with Boston.

According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, the Red Sox have acquired Scott Podsednik from the Phillies. No details on the terms of the deal, and on whether he'll report to Boston or to Pawtucket. With the Red Sox struggling for depth in the outfield, this move makes a lot of sense. If he receives regular playing time, he may also be a cheap source of speed in all fantasy leagues.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Red Sox have been scouting Scott Podsednik at the Phillies' Triple-A affiliate. It makes sense, as the Red Sox are thin in the outfield with the Carl Crawford and Jacoby Ellsbury injuries. The Phillies would also likely be willing to part with him for little in return, as they have a similar player in Juan Pierre in the majors and also have top prospect Domonic Brown at Triple-A for depth. Podsednik didn't appear in the majors last year but batted .297/.342/.382 in 134 games for the Royals and Dodgers in 2010.

The Phillies have placed Scott Podsednik on the temporary inactive list after he failed to report to Triple-A Lehigh Valley due to personal issues. The Phillies do expect Podsednik to report eventually, but it doesn't sound like they know when that will be. Pods batted .309 (17-for-55) with five doubles, one home run, five RBI and five stolen bases this spring but lost out on a roster spot to Juan Pierre.

Phillies reassigned OF Scott Podsednik to minor league camp. Podsednik batted .309 (17-for-55) with five doubles, one home run, five RBI and five stolen bases this spring, but he had little chance of making the team after Juan Pierre has his contract purchased last week. The Phillies also reassigned infielder Hector Luna and left-hander Raul Valdes to minor league camp.

Scott Podsednik told reporters Thursday that he's unlikely to make the Phillies' 25-man roster. The Phillies purchased the contract of Juan Pierre on Thursday, likely pushing Podsednik out of the mix for an Opening Day bench job. The 36-year-old speedster must now decide whether he's open to accepting a role in the Triple-A Lehigh Valley outfield.

Scott Podsednik went 2-for-2 and homered off the bench for the Phillies on Tuesday. Podsednik has outperformed Juan Pierre with his .362 average and five steals in five attempts this spring. Whether that will get him a roster spot remains to be seen. The Phillies can't keep both, and one wonders if they should really keep either.

Phillies re-signed OF Scott Podsednik to a minor league contract. The contract also includes an invite to spring training. Podsednik joined the Phillies last May after being released by the Blue Jays, but only made it as far as Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The 35-year-old is unlikely to crack the Opening Day roster.
