Weber was optioned to the Red Sox's alternate training site Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Weber has made three starts this season, but none have been good. He's thrown a total of just 10 innings, allowing 11 runs on 15 hits, including five homers. His 3:9 K:BB is perhaps even worse than his 9.90 ERA and 2.40 WHIP. The Red Sox are desperate for help in their beat-up rotation, but it's not clear that Weber can provide that help. Dylan Covey was recalled in a corresponding move.

Weber didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 5-3 win over the Blue Jays, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks over three innings. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
The Red Sox continue to keep Weber on a short leash. The right-hander threw 64 pitches (39 strikes) before getting the hook, and he has yet to finish the fourth inning in any of his three starts so far. Weber's 9.90 ERA and 2.40 WHIP certainly don't provide the club with much reason to extend him further. Boston's rotation woes give the team little option but to keep trotting the 29-year-old out there, with his next start scheduled for Wednesday at home against the Rays, but Weber is very far from being any kind of fantasy asset.

Weber (0-2) allowed three runs on four hits and four walks while failing to record a strikeout over 3.1 innings as he was charged with the loss Friday against the Yankees.
EDGE Analysis
After struggling in his season debut, Weber couldn't find a groove once again Friday, allowing two home runs over 3.1 innings prior to being pulled. Despite his early-season woes, manager Ron Roenicke expressed confidence in the right-hander after the game and said that he should maintain his spot in the rotation going forward. Weber's next start should come next Friday at home against the Blue Jays.

Weber (0-1) allowed six runs on six hits and three walks while striking out zero over 3.2 innings as he was charged with the loss Sunday against the Orioles.
EDGE Analysis
Weber was relatively effective in his final tuneup Tuesday, but the Orioles got off to a hot start Sunday, scoring runs in three of the first four innings before Weber was pulled. The right-hander gave up two home runs while failing to record a strikeout in his short start. Weber made 18 appearances (three starts) in his first season with the Red Sox last year, recording a 5.09 ERA and 1.38 WHIP over 40.2 innings. He'll look to turn things around on the road against the Yankees on Friday.

Weber allowed four runs on six hits and one walk while striking out six over six innings in Tuesday's exhibition game against the Blue Jays.
EDGE Analysis
Weber looked ready to assume Boston's No. 3 starter spot for five innings before tiring in his final frame. The low-velocity hurler allowed two runs over the first five innings, but Rowdy Tellez took him deep in the sixth. Weber, an offspeed specialist, is expected to start the third game of the season.

Weber threw 79 pitches across four innings during Saturday's intrasquad game, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Weber was effective for the first three innings before tiring in the first fourth inning he's pitched since spring training. "Yeah, I got tired, but it was a mechanical adjustment I will fix in my next bullpen and carry it on into the game," said the soft-tossing right-hander. Weber had a dominant spring, pitching nine scoreless innings, walking none and striking out 11 over three starts. That performance stands in contrast to his career statistics in the major leagues (5.04 ERA), but he's worked his way into a rotation spot in 2020. With Eduardo Rodriguez (illness) possibly headed to the injured list, Weber is expected to start the third game of the season.

Weber threw live batting practice to several Red Sox regulars Monday, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Weber's strong spring put him in line for the No. 4 starter, and there's been nothing to diminish that outlook. He doesn't throw hard, but Weber changes speeds and commands. "Ryan is so consistent, so pinpoint, his stuff is so consistent," said center fielder Jackie Bradley. "Inside, outside, cutting it, two-seaming it, sliding it, curving it, he's looking good right now. I'm glad he's on our side." If he's named the fourth starter, Weber would be make his regular season debut July 27, at home against the Mets.

Weber was close to locking down the No. 4 starter job in spring training and is expected to be part of the rotation in the regular season, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Weber didn't allow an earned run in nine spring innings and was closing in on a rotation slot when the coronavirus pandemic paused the season. Weber's not an overpowering pitcher, so he'll need to be precise in his command to succeed and have good defense behind him.

Weber could serve as a member of Boston's starting rotation in 2020, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
EDGE Analysis
Weber was seen as a potential back-end starter heading into 2020, but the combination of a strong spring and Chris Sale (elbow) electing for Tommy John surgery led interim manager Ron Roenicke to name him as a candidate to begin the season in the starting rotation. The 29-year-old pitched nine scoreless innings while recording 11 strikeouts and no walks during spring training. Roenicke also named Brian Johnson as an option to serve as a starter, but it would appear as though Weber would have the slight edge after his strong showing this spring.

Weber allowed one hit while striking out four over four scoreless innings in Monday's spring game against the Braves.
EDGE Analysis
Weber handled the Braves with aplomb, showing movement on his two-seamer while seemingly cementing a spot in the rotation. "His fastball, he moves one this way and the next one he cuts in; he's fun to watch," interim manager Ron Roenicke told Dawn Klemish of MLB.com. "He works quick. 'Here it is,' and the outcome has been really good so far." Weber's allowed one unearned run on six hits while striking out 11 without a walk over nine spring innings. There's nothing overpowering about Weber, but he's earned a spot at the back end of the rotation, one that might still be there when Chris Sale (elbow) returns.
