Managar Dusty Baker said after Sunday's 5-2 win over Atlanta that Pressly wasn't available to pitch, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 34-year-old threw 22 pitches and picked up his first save of the season Friday in Atlanta, so it's curious Bryan Abreu was called upon in save situations both Saturday and Sunday. Pressly remains the favorite for saves going forward and is assumed to be healthy since Baker didn't mention an injury, but the right-hander now has just one of Houston's five saves this season.

Pressly walked one batter in a scoreless inning against Atlanta on Friday. He struck out one and earned a save.
EDGE Analysis
Making his ninth appearance of the season, Pressly finally got his first save chance. He converted it despite throwing just 11 of 22 pitches for strikes. He's now sporting a 5.40 ERA with an 8:1 K:BB through 8.1 frames and has turned in three straight scoreless outings since coughing up three runs April 11.

Pressly (0-2) took the loss in Tuesday's 7-4 loss to the Pirates while giving up a walkoff three-run homer and getting just one out. He struck out one.
EDGE Analysis
Pressly gave up singles to Rodolfo Castro and Andrew McCutchen with a strikeout of Jack Suwinski sandwiched between, and then saw Ji Hwan Bae clobbered a three-run homer off him to give the Pirates the win and Pressly the loss. It has not been a strong start for the Astros closer, as he sees his ERA balloon to 8.44 by allowing five runs over 5.1 innings without picking up a save in his first six appearances.

Pressly (illness) tossed a scoreless frame Monday in the Astros' 7-6 loss to the Tigers in 11 innings.
EDGE Analysis
After taking the loss in relief on Opening Day last Thursday, Pressly wasn't available for any of the Astros' games against the White Sox this past weekend while he was feeling under the weather. Fortunately, Pressly seems to have quickly moved past the ailment, as he retired the side in 12 pitches during his appearance Monday.

Astros manager Dusty Baker told reporters Saturday that Pressly is unavailable due to illness, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Pressly was not available for Friday's or Saturday's game with Baker calling the Astros' closer "under the weather." The right-hander could be available for Sunday's series finale against the White Sox, but that's up in the air at the moment. Rafael Montero and Hector Neris have saved the last two games for Houston, and with Neris pitching 1.1 innings Saturday, it would seem to reason that Montero would get the ball in the ninth inning if necessary Sunday.

Pressly (0-1) took the loss in Thursday's 3-2 loss against the White Sox. He allowed two runs on two hits and one walk while striking out one over one inning.
EDGE Analysis
Pressly was called upon in the ninth inning with the score tied 1-1, and he was unable to keep Chicago off the board. After retiring Oscar Colas to begin the frame, Pressly allowed three straight hitters to reach base, with Andrew Vaughn's two-run double serving as the crushing blow. The Astros were able to fight back with one run in the bottom of the ninth but couldn't get Pressly off the hook for the loss. While this was certainly not the way the veteran closer envisioned his first outing of 2023 ending, he has plenty of job security and should get the first crack at a ninth-inning save opportunity whenever that arises.

Pressly is not in favor of the pitch clock that will be implemented in 2023, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Pressly cited the fact that each pitcher is taught to work at their own pace to back his opinion, though he also didn't express concern about his ability to adjust to the new rule. He has most recently pitched in the World Baseball Classic, which does not use a pitch clock. Across three innings of Cactus League action, Pressly has allowed one earned run on five hits and a walk while striking out three across three frames.

Pressly pitched a scoreless ninth inning during Saturday's 4-1 win over the Phillies in Game 6 of the World Series, allowing one hit, striking out none and walking none.
EDGE Analysis
Pressly remained spotless for the postseason, finishing with a 0.00 ERA and just one unearned run allowed across 11 innings. He surrendered a one-out single to J.T. Realmuto, but was able to force two flyouts to secure the World Series victory. The 33-year-old ended his 2022 campaign with 18 consecutive saves -- his last blown save was July 30 against the Mariners. Pressly was extended through 2024 at the beginning of the season in what looks like a great decision for the Astros after the closer was dominant to finish the year.

Pressly pitched the final five outs and earned the save during Thursday's 3-2 win over the Phillies in Game 5 of the World Series, allowing zero hits, walks and runs while striking out two.
EDGE Analysis
Pressly threw a slider that hit Bryce Harper with two outs in the ninth, but he got Nick Castellanos to ground out to secure the save in Game 5. The closer converted his first save of the World Series, and he has now earned the save in 16 consecutive opportunities. After throwing 19 pitches the night prior in Game 4, Pressly needed another 26 to get the final five outs of Game 5. The 33-year-old Texan came into the game with the tying run on third and just one out, but he was able to record a strikeout and a ground out to escape the jam. Pressly is having an outstanding postseason for the Astros -- he has allowed just one unearned run over 10 innings while striking out 13.

Pressly pitched the final inning of Wednesday night's 5-0 win over the Phillies in Game 4 of the World Series, allowing zero runs, zero hits and one walk while striking out one.
EDGE Analysis
Pressly entered the game in the ninth inning with a chance to complete just the second no-hitter in World Series history, and he got the job done. The 33-year-old got J.T. Realmuto to ground out to third to end the game, evening up the series at 2-2. He has allowed just one unearned run in eight appearances during the postseason while amassing 11 strikeouts. Pressly threw 19 pitches Wednesday night, and he may be called on again Thursday night to close out Game 5 if the Astros can get to the ninth inning with a lead.
