Stripling was sent from the Dodgers to the Blue Jays in exchange for a pair of players to be named later Monday.

After several seasons stuck as a swingman in Los Angeles, Stripling should have a good shot to start on a full-time basis for his new team. He'll be the third starter acquired by Toronto at the deadline, joining Taijuan Walker and Robbie Ray. Stripling's 5.61 ERA through seven starts this season is rather unimpressive, but he'd recorded an ERA below 4.00 in each of his first four seasons in the league. If he can recapture his previous form, he'll be a very useful piece for the Blue Jays, who currently hold onto the eighth and final playoff spot in the American League.

Stripling has failed to work at least five innings in each of his last four starts, during which he's allowed 13 earned runs across 15.2 frames. He is currently projected to make his next start Friday against Colorado.

Only two of the runs charged to Stripling were earned, though he played a part in his own demise with a third-inning throwing error that allowed a run to score and contributed to a five-run frame for San Diego. Four of those runs came on a grand slam by Manny Machado, and Stripling served up another long ball -- this time to Jurickson Profar -- in the fifth inning. The outing was the shortest of the campaign for Stripling, who saw his three-start win streak end with the loss. He'll try to get back on track when he heads down the road to face the Angels on Sunday in his next scheduled start.

Stripling (3-0) earned the win in Wednesday's contest over the Padres. He gave up four runs on six hits -- including a home run -- and two walks while fanning seven across 5.2 innings.

Stripling began the season tossing seven innings on one-run ball against the Giants on July 24, but he has given up seven runs on 10 hits and four walks combined in 11 innings over his last two starts, both on the road. Stripling's next scheduled start is set for Aug. 11 at home against the Padres.

Stripling (2-0) picked up the win against the Diamondbacks on Thursday, allowing three runs on four hits and a pair of walks while striking out two across 5.1 innings.

Stripling held the Diamondbacks scoreless until Ketel Marte broke through with a solo home run in the third inning. Overall, it wasn't the cleanest outing, but Stripling still managed to get the job done while his teammates provided ample run support. He'll look to stay undefeated during his next scheduled start Wednesday at San Diego.

Stripling had been battling Dustin May for the open rotation spot created when David Price opted out of the season, and manager Dave Roberts confirmed Monday that Stripling will be given first crack at holding down a starting role. The right-hander threw a simulated game Saturday and is lined up to pitch in the Dodgers' second game of the season against the Giants. Stripling has enjoyed success as a starter in the past and could be a strong option in both daily and season-long fantasy leagues.

Stripling has yet to be announced as the Dodgers' fifth starter, but given the staff's current work schedule -- Stripling will throw a simulated game Saturday while his primary competition for the role, Dustin May, piggybacked with Walker Buehler in an intrasquad game Friday -- the most likely scenario is that Stripling starts and follows Clayton Kershaw in the rotation in order to give Buehler additional time to ramp up to a full workload. Meanwhile, May could continue to piggyback with Buehler early in the campaign, per Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register.
