Grossman is a candidate to bat leadoff this season, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Tigers lack a surefire leadoff hitter, which opens the door for Grossman. The veteran won't offer much speed, but he doesn't whiff a ton (under 20 percent strikeout rate the past four seasons) and he got on at a respectable .344 clip in 2020. Even if he doesn't lead off, Grossman should hit near the top of the Tigers' order and play almost every day.

Grossman signed a two-year, $10 million deal with the Tigers on Tuesday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran outfielder had arguably the strongest season of his career in his age-30 campaign for Oakland last season, hitting .241/.344/.482 with eight homers and eight steals in just 51 games. Those numbers aren't far shy of his career highs of 11 homers and nine steals and suggest at least modest cross-category value for Grossman going forward. Playing time could become a question if he struggles, with the Tigers likely to turn to younger options who have more of a future with the club, but if he's hitting well he won't need to be platooned, as he's a switch hitter with an above-average career batting line against both lefties and righties for his career.

Grossman is out of the lineup Wednesday for Game 3 of the Athletics' ALDS matchup with the Astros.
EDGE Analysis
Grossman will take a seat for the second game in a row while manager Bob Melvin continues to make room in the lineup for the hot-hitting Khris Davis, who has smacked home runs in the first two contests of the series. So long as Davis continues to spark an otherwise languishing Athletics offense, expect him to pick up starts at the expense of either Grossman or Stephen PIscotty.

Grossman will sit for Game 2 of the ALDS against Houston on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Despite being a switch hitter, Grossman didn't start a single game against a southpaw this season. That trend will continue Tuesday against Framber Valdez, with Mark Canha starting in left field and Khris Davis serving as the designated hitter.

Grossman will be on the bench for the second game of the Wild Card Series against the White Sox on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Grossman went hitless in Game 1, though that's true of most of his teammates as well, as Oakland managed just three hits in their 4-1 loss. Mark Canha slides from right field to left in his absence, with Stephen Piscotty entering the lineup in right field.

Grossman is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners.
EDGE Analysis
Grossman has turned in a decent season, with the switch hitter doing nearly all of his damage against right-handed pitching. Against lefties, Grossman is just 2-for-20. He sits against Marco Gonzales in the regular-season finale and Grossman's exposure to southpaws will remain limited during the postseason.

Grossman went 3-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs in a 12-3 loss to the Mariners in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader.
EDGE Analysis
Grossman was the only A's hitter to really solve Mariners starter Justin Dunn in the nightcap. The pair of homers gave Grossman eight in 51 games, to go with eight stolen bases, 23 RBI and 23 runs scored this season.

Grossman is not starting the first of Saturday's two games against Seattle.
EDGE Analysis
As usual, Grossman hits the bench with a lefty (Justus Sheffield) on the mound for the opposition. He'll presumably return to the lineup for the nightcap, with righty Justin Dunn scheduled to pitch for the Mariners. Mark Canha will be the left fielder in his absence.

Grossman isn't in Friday's lineup against the Mariners.
EDGE Analysis
Grossman went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts Thursday, and he'll get a breather for Friday's series opener. Mark Canha will start in left field with Khris Davis serving as the designated hitter.

Grossman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's loss to the Dodgers.
EDGE Analysis
Grossman staked Oakland to an early lead with a solo shot to left field in the first inning, but the team could muster only one run the rest of the way. The long ball was Grossman's first hit since Sept. 14 -- he had gone 0-for-15 over his past four contests.
