Detmers has a chance to get a a big-league call-up in 2021, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Joe Maddon singled out Detmers and fellow prospect Chris Rodriguez as pitchers he's excited to see during spring training and indicated that both could make an impact at some point in the coming campaign. Detmers was the Angels' first-round pick in the 2020 first-year player draft and spent the season at the team's alternate training camp, but his arsenal is already polished enough for him to possibly be big-league ready as soon as this season if a need arises.

Detmers Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic to big-league camp Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
The 10th-overall pick in last year's draft, Detmers has yet to make his professional debut, as the canceled minor-league campaign meant he had to spend the summer pitching at the Angels' alternate site. The Angels reportedly considered calling him up at one point, but with minor-league baseball returning they'll presumably be able to give him a more standard development path.

Angels manager Joe Maddon indicated Monday that Detmers could make his major-league debut this season, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Detmers was selected by the Angels in the first round of the 2020 first-year player draft. In a typical season, he would he honing his skills at the minor-league level, but he has instead been working out at the team's alternate training site in Long Beach due to the cancellation of the minor-league season. Detmers' command and mound presence are advanced for a pitcher coming out of college, so the Angels may be willing to see how he fares in the big leagues without him ever having pitched a minor-league game. "It's not out of the question that he may be able to help us this year," Maddon said. "Regarding next year, with a full minor-league system operating, who knows? It's just a matter of functionality of the entire organization, I think, and how you're going to react and treat your better minor-league players. I don't know that answer right now."

Angels general manager Billy Eppler confirmed Tuesday that Detmers would be included in the team's 60-man player pool for the 2020 season after agreeing to a contract over the weekend that includes a $4.67 million signing bonus, Maria Torres of the Los Angeles Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
The No. 10 overall pick in the first-year player draft earlier this month, Detmers will most likely be part of the Angels' "taxi squad" rather than a member of the 30-man roster that Los Angeles will take into Opening Day in late July. Detmers' inclusion in the 60-man pool will at least allow the Angels to oversee his development, as the organization won't have the option of assigning him to an affiliate with the 2020 minor-league season likely to be cancelled. The 20-year-old southpaw lacks high-end velocity but is viewed as a potential No. 2 or mid-rotation starter in the long haul thanks to his stellar command and pitchability.
