Reed Johnson has made the Marlins as a backup outfielder. Johnson, a non-roster invitee, is hitting .410 (16-for-39) with one home run and four doubles over 14 games during Grapefruit League play. The 37-year-old should be a useful bench piece for Miami, but he's unlikely to be fantasy relevant.

Reed Johnson went 5-for-5 with a double in the rout of the Mets on Monday. Five-hit games in spring training are quite the rarity. Especially in the first half of March, players rarely get five at-bats in the first place. Johnson, bidding to make the Marlins as a fourth outfielder, is 9-for-17 with four RBI. He'll likely have a roster spot.

Marlins signed OF Reed Johnson to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. Johnson hit only .244/.311/.341 this past season, but he's a career .311/.366/.456 hitter against lefties and can play all three outfield positions. He'll have no trouble landing an Opening Day roster spot.

Braves general manager Frank Wren said that declining Reed Johnson's contract option doesn't preclude the possibility of the veteran outfielder's return. The Braves declined Johnson's $1.6 million option for the 2014 season on Monday, opting instead to pay him a $150,000 buyout. Johnson slashed a measly .244/.311/.341 in limited run with Atlanta this past season. Johnson, a career .311/.366/.456 hitter against lefties who can play all three outfield positions, should find a major league contract this winter.

David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the Braves are expected to pick up Reed Johnson's $1.6 million option for 2014. They'll give him the same salary he had in 2013 as opposed to paying him a $150,000 buyout. Johnson batted just .244/.311/.341 this season, but he's a career .311/.366/.456 hitter against lefties and can play all three outfield positions.

Reed Johnson will appeal his one-game suspension. MLB suspended Johnson and fined him an undisclosed amount for his involvement in Wednesday's benches-clearing incident with the Brewers. It's not expected to have an impact on his postseason status.

MLB has suspended Reed Johnson and fined him an undisclosed amount for his involvement in Wednesday's benches-clearing incident with the Brewers on Wednesday. Johnson charged the field and attempted to throw a punch at Carlos Gomez, but oddly wasn't even ejected from the game. It's unclear whether he'll appeal. Neither Brian McCann nor Freddie Freeeman received any punishment for their actions.

Braves activated OF Reed Johnson from the 15-day disabled list. It's not clear at this point whether Johnson is ready to play yet, as his progress from left Achilles tendinitis has been slow. With expanded rosters, the Braves have nothing to lose by going ahead and activating him.

Reed Johnson (Achilles) hopes to return later this month, but he realizes time is running out on his chance to participate in the playoffs. Johnson has been out for a month with left Achilles tendinitis and isn't making great progress. "It's really frustrating," said Johnson. "It's at that time of the year where I feel like I want to be a part of this. Definitely want to get myself some at-bats before we move into the playoffs. But at the same time, if I continue to do the same things that I've been doing in the past, as far as like irritating it every other day and testing it every day, I feel like I'm going to do that for four weeks and be watching the playoffs from home." Johnson has decided not to run for the next week in hopes that the pain subsides.
