Furcal announced his retirement Tuesday. Furcal appeared in just nine major league games since 2012 as he attempted to work his way back this season within the Royals organization, but will end his quest after just three games at the Double-A level. He'll end his career as a .281 hitter with 314 stolen bases and a world series ring from his 2011 campaign with the Cardinals.

Furcal (hamstring) re-signed with the Royals on Wednesday, Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports. Furcal had been released by the Royals just the day before, but the intention had apparently been to bring him back. The 37-year-old is still rehabbing from a torn hamstring and will likely begin the year in the minors.

Furcal was released by the Royals on Tuesday. Furcal was with the club for just over two weeks as he had signed a minor-league deal on March 16, but he'll now have to look for another opportunity to continue his career. The 37-year-old tore his hamstring over the offseason so he likely won't be ready for the start of the season anyway and it's possible he'll have to accept a role in the minors wherever he lands next.

Furcal (hamstring) signed a minor-league deal with the Royals on Monday, Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports. Furcal suffered a torn hamstring in December, and will continue to rehab in the Royals' minor league camp. The 37-year-old struggled in limited MLB action last season, and coming off the hamstring injury, it's possible he'll end up staying in the minors for the majority of the season.

Furcal has a torn hamstring and will miss the Dominican Winter League playoffs, ESPNDeportes.com reports. The hamstring woes continue for Furcal, who was limited to just nine games with Miami last season due to a left hamstring injury. Now 37, Furcal may struggle to find a major league job until he proves he's recovered from his latest setback.

Furcal (hamstring) will not play again this season, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports. Furcal hoped he would be able to return this season, but he has decided to undergo surgery on his injured hamstring next week, and will not play again in 2014. Furcal has dealt with injury issues for years, but he was still able to earn a one-year, $3.5 million contract last offseason, so it remains to be seen what his next step will be once he recovers from next week's procedure.

Rafael Furcal (hamstring) has yet to resume baseball activities. Furcal has been on the shelf since mid-June following another hamstring injury. The veteran infielder is no safe bet to return at all this season.

Marlins transferred 2B Rafael Furcal from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list. It's the second time Furcal has been on the 60-day DL this season due to leg issues. He's being transferred there this time in order to clear space on the 40-man roster for the addition of Jordany Valdespin.

Marlins manager Mike Redmond said Monday that Rafael Furcal (hamstring) will miss "a significant amount of time." Furcal actually tore part of his left hamstring muscle behind the knee, so it's not your garden variety hamstring strain. "He's done for quite a bit of time," Redmond said. "I'm not sure how long. ... It's a significant amount of time." Furcal has been limited to just nine games this season due to leg issues and it sounds like he won't be back until well into the second half, if he returns at all.
