The Mets recalled Mazeika from Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Mazeika hit .214 in 14 at-bats with the Mets before being optioned May 31, most notably putting the ball in play for two walk-off winners. He was recalled in May to be the backup catcher while Tomas Nido was injured, so now he'll presumably be the third catcher and simply an extra bat available off the bench.

The Mets optioned Mazeika to Triple-A Syracuse on Monday.

Mazeika had been serving as a No. 3 catcher and a reserve first baseman since his May 5 call-up, picking up only 16 plate appearances over the last three-plus weeks. He was deemed expendable with the Mets bringing back Pete Alonso (hand) from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.

Mazeika has hit seven home runs and stolen two bases while batting .302 this season for High-A St. Lucie.
