Nick Masset (shoulder) threw 25 pitches in a live batting practice session Tuesday. It was his second live BP session. "He felt good," Reds pitching coach Bryan Price said. "Depending on how he responds, he'll either throw in a simulated game or an (Arizona League) game." Masset could be back sometime in August if he keeps progressing.

Nick Masset (shoulder) could face hitters Saturday in Arizona. Masset suffered a setback earlier this month, but he resumed throwing bullpen sessions this week. He's hoping to throw a 20-25 pitch live batting practice session on Saturday, which could pave the way for him to begin pitching in Arizona rookie league games next week. Masset has been out all season with shoulder issues.

Nick Masset (shoulder) was unable to throw a bullpen session Saturday. Masset had a recent setback when he felt some pain in his shoulder, and he still wasn't feeling good enough to throw Saturday as hoped. "He's not going to throw one until he's immaculate," Reds pitching coach Bryan Price said. Consider the setup man out indefinitely.

Nick Masset (shoulder) hopes to throw another bullpen session Saturday. Masset was recently back off of bullpen sessions after feeling some pain in his shoulder, but if everything goes off without a hitch Saturday, he could be cleared to begin facing live hitters. However, there's no timetable for his return to the Reds' bullpen.

Nick Masset (shoulder) was scheduled to throw another bullpen session Wednesday. Masset threw 40 pitches on Monday and backed off from extra day of throwing on Tuesday, but chalked it up to normal soreness. "It felt good all the way through. The next day, I had a little soreness," said Masset. "When you go through something like this, you have the spot that's hurt, but as you come back and start throwing, there are certain things that are going to pop up in your shoulder -- just tightness." Masset will travel with the team to San Francisco this week in order to continue his throwing program, but could soon head to Arizona to begin facing live hitters. However, there's no timetable for his return.

Reds pitching coach Bryan Price said it's "too early" to talk about a rehab assignment for Nick Masset (shoulder). Masset threw another bullpen session Tuesday and could mix in breaking balls in a session Thursday. "It's too early," Price said. "There are some things that have to go on, as far as my opinion as part of the protocol. He's got to throw more bullpens. He needs to face some hitters live, either in a batting practice situation or simulated game type situation. And then start to think about how to lay out his innings plan before his rehab throwing program."

Nick Masset (shoulder) plans to throw another 20-pitch bullpen session on Tuesday. Masset is scheduled to throw all fastballs Tuesday. If all goes well, he could mix in some breaking pitches during his next bullpen session on Thursday. It sounds like he's finally making progress from shoulder soreness, but the 30-year-old right-hander may not contribute much until the second half.

Nick Masset (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Friday. Masset will continue doing mound work until the Reds' medical team clears him for a minor league rehab assignment. The veteran setup man seems unlikely to return to the Cincinnati 'pen before the All-Star break.

Nick Masset (shoulder) has increased his long-tossing to 120 feet. He's now been throwing for about a week and is throwing between 60-70 times during the sessions. While there's no timetable for him to throw off a mound, it can't be too far in the future.

Nick Masset (shoulder) made 30 throws from a distance of 60 feet on Thursday. It was his first throwing session since being shut down in mid-April with renewed shoulder soreness. "I was about as encouraged as I could be for throwing on the first day," said Masset. He's scheduled to make another 30 throws Friday. There is no timetable for his return.
