The Rangers named Eovaldi as their starter against the Red Sox for Opening Day on March 27.
EDGE Analysis
It'll be the fifth Opening Day start of Eovaldi's career and his second straight for Texas. The veteran right-hander is still getting on track in spring training with seven runs allowed over nine frames, but he's coming off a 2024 campaign that saw him finish with a 3.80 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 166:42 K:BB across 170.2 innings.

Eovaldi allowed four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four in Sunday's spring start against the Diamondbacks.
EDGE Analysis
Eovaldi threw a spring-high 75 pitches in his third Cactus League outing. He told Shawn McFarland of the Dallas Morning News he was off mechanically and struggled to locate his fastball. Beyond that, the right-hander said he felt fine and was pleased with his curveball, which elicited seven swing-and-misses (14 thrown) and none were hit into play. Eovaldi believes he knows what went wrong for him Sunday and how to correct it. Nothing has been decreed yet, but Eovaldi is a good bet to start Opening Day.

Eovaldi allowed one run on three hits while striking out three over three innings in Wednesday's spring start against the Guardians.
EDGE Analysis
Eovaldi threw an efficient 31 pitches and came away pleased with the effort after an uneven first Cactus League start. "I felt much better this time around than the last outing," Eovaldi told Shawn McFarland of the Dallas Morning News. "I felt like my command was a lot better and I liked the shapes of my pitches." Eovaldi felt like he rushed pitches during his first outing.

Eovaldi allowed two runs on two hits and one walk while striking out one over two innings in Friday's spring opener against the Royals. He also hit a batter.
EDGE Analysis
Eovaldi used his entire repertoire over the two innings, and he broke out a new two-seamer, although it was not identified as such in the Statcast box score. "I've been working on that two-seam runner," he told Kennedi Landry of MLB.com. "It wasn't as great today. In the offseason, the TrackMan results were awesome." The right-hander said he felt like he was rushing all his pitches down the mound and plans to work on slowing down his mechanics in subsequent outings.

Eovaldi agreed to a three-year, $75 million contract with the Rangers on Tuesday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Eovaldi turned down his $20 million player option earlier in the offseason, but he'll officially remain in Arlington on a multi-year deal that will pay him $5 million more in 2025 than if he had exercised his option. The 34-year-old righty has been fairly consistent during his time with the Rangers, posting a 3.72 ERA and 1.12 WHIP over the last two seasons, and he'll presumably follow Jacob deGrom as the second man in Texas' rotation.

Eovaldi declined his $20 million player option for 2025, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.
EDGE Analysis
While that means Eovaldi is now a free agent, Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young said Monday that the club has "great interest" in re-signing the veteran right-hander. Eovaldi, who turns 35 in February, holds a 3.72 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 298:89 K:BB over 314.2 innings covering 54 regular-season starts during his two seasons with the Rangers.

Eovaldi (12-8) allowed four hits and a walk over seven scoreless innings Sunday, striking out five and earning a win over the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
Eovaldi escaped a bases-loaded jam in the first inning but didn't face much danger otherwise. He had been tagged for 14 runs over 16.2 innings in his previous three outings before closing out his 2024 season with a terrific outing Sunday. It was the fourth time this season he threw at least seven innings without allowing a run. Eovaldi finishes the season with a 3.80 ERA and a 166:42 K:BB through 170.2 innings. He's finished each of the five seasons with an ERA between 3.63 and 3.87.

Eovaldi did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's loss to the Athletics, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out seven in seven innings.
EDGE Analysis
The Athletics plated a pair of runs against Eovaldi in the first, another in the third and then scratched across one more in the sixth stemming from an error earlier in the inning. Eovaldi only allowed four hits, two of which came in the first inning, and his seven strikeouts were his second most in eight starts since Aug. 10. Eovaldi is now winless in his last three starts and holds a 7.56 ERA over that span. For the year, he holds a 3.96 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 161:41 K:BB in 163.2 innings and lines up to face the Angels over the weekend in his final start of the year.

Eovaldi allowed seven runs on 11 hits and two walks while striking out four over 4.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Blue Jays.
EDGE Analysis
The two teams traded rallies in the contest -- Eovaldi was tagged for four runs in the fifth inning just after the Rangers had established a lead. This was one of Eovaldi's worst performances of the year, as the seven runs and 11 hits allowed were both season highs. His ERA is up to 3.96 with a 1.13 WHIP and 154:38 K:BB through 156.2 innings over 27 starts. He posted four straight quality starts from Aug. 17 to Sept. 4, but he's struggled in two straight outings. He'll look to get back on track in his next projected start, which is expected to be in Oakland with the Rangers seemingly shifting to a six-man rotation to close out the campaign.

Eovaldi (11-8) allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out six over five innings to take the loss versus the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Eovaldi gave up back-to-back home runs to Joc Pederson and Christian Walker in the first inning, and Walker got to him for a two-run blast in the third as well. This was the first time in six starts that Eovaldi had given up multiple homers, something he's done just five times this season. His three-start winning streak came to an end, and he now has a 3.67 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 150:36 K:BB through 152 innings over 26 starts this season. Eovaldi's next start is projected to be at home versus the Blue Jays, as the Rangers will build in some rest for their starters with the returns of Jacob deGrom (elbow) and Max Scherzer (shoulder) during this weekend's four-game series versus the Mariners.
