EDGE Analysis
Tauchman entered the game as a pinch hitter for Nick Madrigal in the fifth inning, and he responded with his second straight multi-hit performance. Ian Happ was also lifted from this game in the seventh with hamstring tightness and was replaced by Alexander Canario. If Happ has to miss any time moving forward, Tauchman is an option to fill in there, though he'd likely continue to sit against southpaws.

Tauchman will be making his third start in four games after reaching base four times (one double, one single and two walks) over his prior two starts. At least while he continues to show a solid approach at the plate, Tauchman looks like he'll be prioritized ahead of Nick Madrigal for the final spot in the Cubs' regular lineup versus right-handed pitching.

The 33-year-old had started three straight against right-handers but will take a seat Friday with the Dodgers sending Bobby Miller to the mound. Tauchman's essentially been in a platoon with Nick Madrigal, getting starts in the outfield on days when Christopher Morel is at third base. Madrigal is at the hot corner Friday however, while Morel serves as the DH.

After being excluded from the lineup in both of the Cubs' first two games of the season, Tauchman will make his second straight start Monday, with both coming against right-handed pitchers. At least for the time being, Tauchman seems to have secured a regular role against right-handers at the expense of Nick Madrigal, who will hit the bench for the second day in a row while Christopher Morel mans third base. The Cubs are likely to rotate Ian Happ and Seiya Suzuki at designated hitter on days that Tauchman picks up starts in the outfield.

It's not a major surprise given the veteran outfielder had a solid .740 OPS in 108 games for Chicago last season, but it's still worth noting given Cody Bellinger was recently re-signed. Tauchman is poised to served as the Cubs' fourth outfielder and isn't likely to have much fantasy utility in that role.
