Mayers was designated for assignment by the Cardinals on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Mayers was activated off the 60-day injured list July 23 but struggled in four appearances, allowing six runs over 5.1 innings with a 2:5 K:BB. The 27-year-old could remain in the organization if he goes unclaimed on waivers.

Mayers (lat) was activated from the 60-day injured list Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Mayers has been on the shelf since mid-April due to a right lat strain, but after completing his rehab stint at Triple-A Memphis, he's ready to return to the big-league bullpen. He's appeared in eight games this season for St. Louis, posting a 5.40 ERA with eight punchouts over 8.1 innings of work. Chasen Shreve was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Mayers (lat) is slated to work multi-inning, back-to-back outings at Triple-A Memphis next week in anticipation of activation from the injured list, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mayers has been sidelined with his lat strain since April 16, and the 30-day window on his rehab assignment is coming to an end next Friday. At that point, the Cardinals would either have to activate Mayers or send him to the minors, but the latter move would subject him to waivers. With St. Louis currently sporting a full 40-man roster, the team would have to move another player to the 60-day injured list or remove a player from the 40-man roster via a trade or a designation for assignment in order to make room for Mayers.

Mayers (lat), who has a 2.45 ERA over 7.1 innings during his rehab assignment, could be activated in coming days, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. "There's always a constant evaluation," manager Mike Shildt said. "It's about how he feels, how he recovers, and we'll get him up here. I texted with him today, he's feeling good, and he's excited about his pitches and where he is and how he's recovering, so everything is moving forward positively."
EDGE Analysis
The veteran right-hander would be a welcome addition to the bullpen for the stretch run, and his chance to begin contributing again after his extended layoff could come soon. Mayers has a maximum of 11 days on his rehab assignment, so the latest he could be activated would be July 26.

Mayers (lat), who fired a scoreless two-thirds of an inning in which he allowed no hits and two walks during Triple-A Memphis' loss to Iowa on Friday, now owns a 2.45 ERA through 3.2 innings across four rehab appearances.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander is out of minor-league options, so the Cardinals will keep him busy during his rehab assignment in order to prepare him for an eventual return to the big-league bullpen. Mayers was enjoying an impressive season prior to suffering his injury in mid-April, and he'll look to regain his form during his remaining time with the Redbirds.

Mayers (lat) allowed an earned run on a solo home run in one inning in Triple-A Memphis' loss to New Orleans on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Mayers fired 22 pitches during his inning, a notable departure from the scant six he'd thrown in his first rehab outing last Wednesday. The solo homer he allowed to Isan Diaz was his one blemish, but the fact he got more work in was a plus. Mayers likely still has multiple rehab appearances remaining before he's considered for activation.

Mayers (lat) fired a scoreless seventh inning in Triple-A Memphis' loss to Nashville on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
The good news is that Mayers got through his one frame without a hitch. However, he may have been just a tad too efficient, considering he needed just six pitches to notch three outs. Overall, it was an encouraging first appearance for Mayers after he last saw game action April 15, and he'll work on building his pitch count back up in subsequent rehab outings.

Mayers (lat) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday, Rob Rains of StLSportsPage.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mayers has been out with a lat strain since mid-April. Given the length of his absence, he'll likely need a fairly long rehab assignment.

Mayers (lat) threw a bullpen session Thursday and will throw either live batting practice or a simulated game Sunday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mayers has been out since late April and will therefore presumably need a relatively extensive rehab assignment before activation. However, the right-hander will need to get through his live BP or sim game Sunday before he can head out to a minor-league affiliate.
