Michael Saunders is not in the Mariners' lineup for the third straight day due to flu-like symptoms. Saunders is evidently sicker Sunday than he was Saturday, so it sounds like he might not be ready to play Monday, either. Casper Wells is getting another start in center field.

Saunders' double was a big one, as it plated the tying run in a 3-2 ballgame in the ninth inning. He'd score the go-ahead run two batters later on a John Jaso single. An everyday player thus far, Saunders is hitting .261/.346/.522. He's worth a look in AL-only leagues while Franklin Gutierrez works his way back from a pectoral injury.

Michael Saunders hit a two-run homer off Graham Godfrey in the Mariners' 8-5 win over the A's on Friday. Saunders opened camp as a long shot to make the Mariners, but he has a real shot now with Franklin Gutierrez set to miss the first month. Apart from Gutierrez, he's the best defensive center fielder the Mariners have. His bat has been a huge disappointment, but if he can put together a good spring, then he could begin the season starting against righties in a platoon with Casper Wells.

Mariners recalled OF Michael Saunders from Triple-A Tacoma. Saunders batted .168/.223/.248 with 45 strikeouts over his first 152 plate appearances with the Mariners this season before being demoted to the minors in early June. While the 24-year-old enjoyed some success hitting in Pacific Coast League, we're not convinced he'll suddenly be able to hit major league pitching. He'll provide some depth in center field now that Franklin Gutierrez is sidelined with an oblique injury.
