Pineda gave up one run on four hits while striking out seven and issuing zero walks in six innings Tuesday against the Red Sox.
EDGE Analysis
This was Pineda's first quality start since July 10, and while that includes a stretch when he was out with a forearm injury, it still illustrates how shaky he has been of late. He lines up for two starts next week, the first coming Monday against the Orioles.

New York Yankees pitcher Michael Pineda is expected to return from his forearm injury to start Wednesday against the Houston Astros, according to the YES Network. Pineda, who allowed one run on three hits while striking out three in 4.2 innings in a rehab start with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday, has been sidelined since July 24. The Yankees are expected to use a six-man rotation when Pineda returns, which means he may only have six starts before the end of the regular season. Pineda has dealt with various injuries this season, though his 19 starts are the second highest he has had in the majors since making 28 starts for the Seattle Mariners back in the 2011 season. He is 9-7 with a 3.97 ERA and 117 strikeouts in 118 innings this season, while the Yankees are in first place in the American League East.

New York Yankees pitcher Michael Pineda, who was placed on the disabled list in late July with a forearm injury, will make a rehab start at Double-A Trenton on Sunday, according to the YES Network. The rehab start is expected to be no more than 45 pitches. Pineda threw off a mound Monday, and he said he felt no pain after throwing a 25-pitch bullpen session that consisted of only fastballs and changeups. "I'm feeling good right now, so I'm happy with that," Pineda told ESPN. "I can tell when the arm feels good, and when the arm feels something's wrong, you know?" Manager Joe Girardi said he is pleased with Pineda's rehab, but would not say how many starts he would need in the minor leagues before returning to the big club. Pineda has a 3.97 earned-run average with 117 strikeouts in 118 innings this season.

The New York Yankees placed pitcher Michael Pineda on the disabled list Thursday because of a forearm injury, according to MLB.com. Pineda was scheduled to pitch in the series finale against the Texas Rangers on Thursday, but he did not seem concerned about the ailment, saying he would need just 7 to 10 days before he is back to full health. "I'm not worried," Pineda told New York Newsday. "It's not a big deal." Pineda started the season strongly, establishing himself as the top pitcher in the rotation, but he has struggled over the past two months, allowing 28 earned runs in nine starts. CC Sabathia will take Pineda's start on Thursday. The Yankees will enter the game with a 57-43 record, which puts them six games ahead of the Baltimore Orioles for first place in the American League East division.
