Mike Morse (lat) played left field Thursday in the first game of his rehab assignment with Double-A Harrisburg. Morse went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in the game, but the more important news is that he was able to play in the outfield. As long as he avoids any setbacks, he should be ready to rejoin the Nationals in about a week.

Michael Morse (lat) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Thursday night at Double-A Harrisburg. Morse was placed on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 26 with a strained right lat. As long as he can avoid setbacks, the 30-year-old slugger should be ready to join the Nationals' starting lineup in about a week. He posted a stellar .303/.360/.550 slash line with 31 home runs and 95 RBI in 146 games last season.

William Ladson of MLB.com reports that Michael Morse (lat) will begin the season on the disabled list. It's been looking that way for a while now. Morse was recently cleared to resume baseball activities and played catch from 60 feet Friday with no issues, but he's simply not going to be ready on time. It seems likely, though, that he'll be ready for activation when he's eligible or shortly after.

Michael Morse is scheduled to resume throwing Wednesday before receiving a sonogram to see if his strained right lat has healed. Morse recently received a platelet rich plasma injection in an effort to expedite the healing process. He's still likely to need a stint on the disabled list, but the Nats are hoping it will be a short one.

Michael Morse (shoulder) is scheduled to start throwing Monday. Morse received a platelet rich plasma injection and is making progress in his recovery from a strained lat. If he is not available Opening Day, he'll likely only need a short stint on the disabled list.

Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo said Friday that he "feel(s) good about Opening Day" for Michael Morse (lat), "and if not Opening Day, soon after." Morse recently received a platelet rich plasma injection in hopes of speeding up his recovery from a strained lat. The outfielder has been saying for a while now that he feels fine, so this does appear to be a case of the Nats using extra caution. As Rizzo indicated, if Morse does need a stint on the disabled list, it's likely to be a short one.

Nationals manager Davey Johnson indicated Thursday that Michael Morse (lat) recently received a platelet rich plasma injection and is unlikely to be ready for Opening Day. Johnson also referred to the injury as a "tear," though it's technically the same thing as a strain. Morse continues to say that he feels fine, but he hasn't been cleared for baseball activities yet. Steven Lombardozzi and Mark DeRosa will likely get more work in the outfield in the coming days as the Nats brace for his possible absence.
