Mariot was called up to the Royals, Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports. After posting a 3.18 ERA in 28.1 innings with Triple-A Omaha, Mariot gets the call to head back to the big leagues. Last season, he made 17 appearances for the Royals, carrying a 6.48 ERA in 25 innings with a 21:12 K:BB ratio. He will replace Aaron Brooks in the bullpen.

Mariot (undisclosed) was recalled and placed on the 60-day DL on Thursday. Mariot was placed on the DL at Triple-A Omaha earlier this month, and while specifics regarding the injury remain scarce, clearly the issue is severe enough to end his season. Waiver acquisition Jayson Nix will take Mariot's spot on the 40-man roster.

Royals optioned RHP Michael Mariot to Triple-A Omaha. Mariot was knocked around for five runs -- two earned -- over just one-third of an inning in Tuesday's loss to the Twins. Casey Coleman has replaced him in the bullpen.
