Kepler didn't post the best numbers during spring training, but he began the season on a strong note, falling a homer shy of hitting for the cycle. The German outfielder will hit in the heart of the order this season after leading off in 2020, and while one game is an extremely small sample, the move might benefit the 28-year-old.

Kepler went 1-for-3 in Saturday's spring training loss to Tampa Bay. He's hitting just .077 (3-for-39) this spring, but manager Rocco Baldelli said he's not concerned. "It's spring training, but everyone likes getting hits and when you're not feeling so hot at the plate, yeah, a hit like that will definitely help you," Baldelli told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "...When Kep gets to Opening Day, just like everyone else over here, everything starts from scratch."

Kepler is set with the starting right field job, so his spring stats shouldn't be a worry. The larger concern is if he starts losing at-bats during the season to left-handed pitching. Kepler took a step back last season after a breakout 2019 campaign as he returned to struggling against lefties. He's set as Minnesota's everyday right fielder, and will try to prove his step back last season was the result of a small sample size.

Kepler was one of two Minnesota hitters that recorded two or more knocks, and he was the reason why the game was decided on extra-innings -- he launched his ninth homer of the season in the bottom of the eighth when the Twins were down 3-2 on the score. Kepler has now hit safely in three straight games and is showing signs of a revival -- he entered this game hitting just .233 in 30 September at-bats.
