Atlanta placed Fried on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to April 1, on Tuesday with a strained left hamstring.
EDGE Analysis
Fried suffered the injury during his Opening Day start and is now finally officially on the IL. The feeling at this point is that he should be ready to go after missing just two starts. Bryce Elder will take Fried's spot in Atlanta's rotation Wednesday in St. Louis.

Fried (hamstring) will be placed on the injured list, though Atlanta doesn't need to make the move just yet with the bullpen still fresh, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Fried left his Opening Day start with a strained hamstring. It was clear after the game that he'd miss at least one start, and he'll now be forced to miss at least two. Whether or not a longer absence is required is not yet clear. One of Ian Anderson or Bryce Elder will likely step into the rotation in his absence.

Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said Thursday that Fried (hamstring) will "definitely" miss his next scheduled start, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's not official yet, but Fried is almost certainly headed for a stint on the 15-day IL after suffering a left hamstring strain in Thursday's season opener against the Nationals. The left-hander is without a clear timeline for his return but shouldn't be expected back until at least mid-April.Ian Anderson and Bryce Elder are the primary options to take the ball in his place next Wednesday at St. Louis.

Fried strained his hamstring during Thursday's game against Washington and will likely spend time on the injured list, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
EDGE Analysis
No official decision has been made yet regarding whether or not Fried will head to the IL after suffering the injury during Thursday's Opening Day start. If he does, it would be a big blow to Atlanta's rotation early in the season after the 29-year-old lefty finished 2022 with a 2.48 ERA and 1.01 WHIP.

Fried left Thursday's game against the Nationals in the fourth inning due to a left leg injury, Britt Ghiroli of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Fried grabbed his left leg while running to cover first base and appeared to tweak his hamstring. He was able to walk off on his own power, so it may not be too serious. The left-hander surrendered one run on four hits with two strikeouts and no walks over 3.1 innings prior to exiting with the injury. Lucas Luetge has taken over in relief for Atlanta.

Fried will start for Atlanta on Opening Day versus the Nationals.
EDGE Analysis
It's no surprise the southpaw gets the nod following a National League Cy Young runner-up campaign. Fried has been excellent this spring, tossing 11.1 scoreless innings while notching 14 strikeouts.

Fried allowed one hit and two walks over 6.1 scoreless innings while striking out five in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Twins.
EDGE Analysis
It was another impressive spring outing for the southpaw, who sports a 14:4 K:BB through 11.1 Grapefruit League innings without giving up a run. Fried remains in line to get the Opening Day assignment for Atlanta, although manager Brian Snitker has yet to make an announcement, and the 29-year-old is coming off a season in which he posted a 2.48 ERA and career-best 1.01 WHIP in a career-high 185.1 innings.

Fried gave up two hits over four scoreless innings while striking out five in Thursday's exhibition game against Team Puerto Rico.
EDGE Analysis
Facing a lineup that featured Francisco Lindor in the leadoff spot and big-league bats throughout the lineup, Fried carved up the opposition without much trouble. Including two Grapefruit League starts, the southpaw has yet to allow a run over nine innings with a composite 14:2 K:BB this spring, and he appears to be just about ready for Opening day.

Fried gave up two hits and struck out four without walking anyone over two scoreless innings in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Blue Jays.
EDGE Analysis
Facing a Toronto lineup mostly made up of minor leaguers, Fried didn't have much trouble carving it up in his first game action of the spring. The 29-year-old southpaw is coming off an impressive 2022 campaign that included a career-best 4.4 percent walk rate, and he's in the mix to take the mound Opening Day for Atlanta.

Fried lost his arbitration case Saturday and will be paid $13.5 million next season rather than the $15 million he hoped for, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
EDGE Analysis
Fried still has two more seasons to go before he reaches free agency, so Atlanta will get to keep one of the better lefties in the game around at a discounted rate. Fried owns a 2.68 ERA over the past three seasons despite a merely average 23.3 percent strikeout rate. He's relied on a high groundball rate (51.7 percent of that stretch) and a low walk rate (5.7 percent) to minimize damage.
