The Los Angeles Angels non-tendered starting pitcher Matt Shoemaker on Friday, making him a free agent. Shoemaker has appeal when healthy but has missed significant time the last two seasons with forearm issues and needed surgery in 2018. The right-hander had a 4.94 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and career-high 9.6 K/9 in just seven starts (31 innings) this past season. He can be an asset to a starting rotation when healthy, but it'll depend on where he lands and how healthy he is entering the 2019 season.

Los Angeles Angels starter Matt Shoemaker threw five strong innings on Tuesday, giving up one run and striking out seven. He only gave up four hits and walked zero. Shoemaker has yet to post a quality start, although he has thrown five or more innings with less than three runs in four outings. It's unclear if Shoemaker will make another start this season, but if this is it he finished the year with a 4.82 ERA and a 30/8 K/BB ratio.

The Los Angeles Angels will go with a bullpen day on Thursday against the Mariners in order to give starting pitchers Matt Shoemaker and Andrew Heaney an extra day of rest. Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Matt Shoemaker (forearm) has been activated from the 60-day disabled list on Monday and is making his second start of the season against the Rangers. Shoemaker has been out since making his first start of the year and underwent right forearm surgery. As a result, he's not a recommended streamer in his first start back after missing so much time. However, if the right-hander looks good, he could be a deep league streaming option down the stretch.
