Hall was optioned to Boston's alternate training site Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Hall hasn't fared well in his two 2020 appearances, giving up a combined eight earned runs across 2.2 innings. He'll effectively be bumped from the rotation to help get the roster down to the required 28 players, with his replacement in the rotation yet to be named. Boston's pitching situation has been less-than-ideal this season, and it may be forced to turn to a bullpen game during Hall's next turn this weekend versus Toronto.

Hall allowed five runs on four hits and two walks while striking out a pair in two innings in a no-decision versus the Yankees on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Hall worked behind an opener, Austin Brice, in the contest. It didn't go as intended for Hall, who yielded a three-run homer to Aaron Judge in the second inning and a pair of RBI doubles to Gary Sanchez and Gio Urshela in the third. Hall hasn't pitched deeper than the third inning in either of his appearances this year, and the results have not been good. He's scheduled to face the Blue Jays on Saturday.

Hall (0-1) took the loss Tuesday as the Red Sox fell 8-3 to the Mets, giving up three runs on three hits and two walks over 2.2 innings. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
The former Tiger only lasted 51 pitches (32 strikes) and dug an early hole the Boston offense couldn't climb out of. Hall's spot in the rotation is by no means secure, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see him swapped off the 30-man roster in favor of one of the team's other fringe starting candidates.

Hall is scheduled to start Tuesday against the Mets.
EDGE Analysis
Hall will be used as the fifth starter this time through the rotation, but Ian Browne of MLB.com said it's likely Boston will not have a set fifth starter early in the season.

Hall allowed two singles and a walk over four scoreless innings in Saturday's intrasquad game, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hall, who is making a bid to be a starter or multi-inning reliever, was impressive against a lineup that featured Andrew Benintendi, Rafael Devers, J.D. Martinez and Xander Bogaerts, retiring 10 of the final 11 batters he faced. "He's certainly in the mix," manager Ron Roenicke said. "That's four good innings. He's got the good curveball that everybody knows, but he's got a nice changeup -- he got J.D. out in his last at-bat on a changeup -- and he throws his fastball, when he gets it in, it's got a little cut to it." The Red Sox are still evaluating the fifth slot in the rotation, though they could decide to go with an opener and bulk-inning relievers.

Hall has impressed manager Ron Roenicke in camp and is a candidate for a multi-inning "bulk guy" role this year, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.
EDGE Analysis
Anyone with a bulk role could be worthy of deep-league consideration this year, especially early in the season, when those pitchers will be eligible for wins while starters on limited workloads may not pitch long enough to pick any up. Of course, Hall will have to pitch well in that role to be genuinely interesting. He's failed to do so in his first 31.1 big-league innings, as he struggled to a 9.48 ERA and a 2.07 WHIP.

Hall was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
Hall was fighting for Boston's final rotation spot but ultimately came up short after struggling across three appearances before spring training was suspended. The southpaw, who posted a 7.71 ERA across 23.1 innings with the Tigers in 2019, will serve as pitching depth in the minors.

Hall is one of the names being considered as Boston's fifth starter, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports. He's allowed four runs on six hits and four walks while striking out three over three innings this spring.
EDGE Analysis
As someone still on the major-league training camp roster, Hall's name is included as a possible fill-in for the injured Chris Sale (elbow), but he's a long shot. The left-hander, who was acquired from Detroit during the offseason, was a starter in the low levels of the minors, but the Tigers began preparing him for a swing role once he reached the upper levels. That suggests he doesn't have the pitch mix to be a reliable starter. Hall relied on a low-wattage four-seamer (90.5 mph) and a high-spin curveball during his MLB stint for the Tigers in 2019, with all his appearances coming in relief. All of his spring appearances with Boston prior to play being suspended also came out of the bullpen.

Hall was traded to the Red Sox from the Tigers on Friday in exchange for minor-league catcher Jhon Nunez.
EDGE Analysis
The 26-year-old was designated for assignment by Detroit earlier this week, and he'll end up making his way to Boston rather than being exposed to the waiver wire. Hall struggled with a 7.71 ERA, 1.84 WHIP and 27:15 K:BB over 23.1 innings during 2019, so he'll likely require a strong showing in spring training in order to make the Opening Day roster.

Hall was designated for assignment by the Tigers on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Hall struggled to a 7.71 ERA in 23.1 innings for the Tigers last season, walking batters at a 13.3 percent clip. He was dropped from the roster to make room for new signee Ivan Nova.
