Duffy was recalled by the Giants and will start at second base Friday against the Royals. The Giants optioned Duffy on Thursday to make room for Angel Pagan, but he never actually left the team and will return to the active roster Friday with Brandon Belt headed to the 7-day concussion DL. While Duffy was expected to platoon with Joe Panik after his initial promotion last week, he will likely be deployed primarily off the bench while up.

Duffy was optioned back to the minors on Thursday. The expectation was that Duffy would platoon at second base with Joe Panik, but Panik has picked it up at the dish of late and it seems the Giants are content with letting him play everyday. Duffy will head back to the minors, likely to Triple-A Fresno, after batting .332/.398/.444 with Double-A Richmond prior to his callup.
