EDGE Analysis
Chapman left the team prior to Tuesday's 10-0 win over the Orioles to observe the birth of his child, but the Giants waited until Wednesday before officially deactivating him. Casey Schmitt was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento to provide some infield depth in the short term. Per MLB rules, Chapman will be away from the Giants for at least one game and as many as three while on the paternity list, so expected him to rejoin the club no later than Saturday.

The Giants are placing Chapman on the paternity list Tuesday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
It appeared Chapman was receiving a maintenance day as he was out of the lineup for Tuesday's matchup with Baltimore, but he's actually stepped away from the team to be with his growing family. The veteran third baseman -- whose absence Tuesday is just his sixth of the campaign -- should be back with the Giants in time for Friday's series opener in Kansas City.
