St. Louis Cardinals infielder Matt Carpenter (illness) is back in the starting lineup for Thursday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Carpenter was forced to leave Wednesday's game because of nausea, but the team later confirmed he was just dealing with a 24-hour virus. He's back in there leading off and playing third base.

Updating a previous report, St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Shildt said that infielder Matt Carpenter (illness) is dealing with a 24-hour virus. It explains why he was removed from the game early on Wednesday due to nausea. Carpenter may need to sit out a day or two, but he should return at some point this weekend. He's been the team's best offensive weapon, hitting .274 with 34 home runs and 71 RBI coming into the game on Wednesday.
