Barnes has been called up from Triple-A Pawtucket and will join the 40-man roster, Alex Speier of WEEI.com reports.
Barnes has spent the season at Triple-A, where he's posted a 3.95 ERA in 23 appearances (22 starts). He's allowed 56 earned runs but just eight home runs while striking out 103 batters in 127.2 total innings. The 24-year-old will pitch out of the bullpen for the Red Sox over the final three weeks of the season. The team transferred Shane Victorino to the 60-day DL to clear room on the 40-man.
