Canha saw a run of eight consecutive starts come to an end in Saturday's 5-1 loss to the Astros. The move to the bench coincided with Khris Davis' return from the injured list, leaving Canha without a clear path to an everyday lineup spot. Unless Davis suffers a setback with his problematic hip, Canha will probably have to settle for a short-side platoon role in the outfield, at best.

Canha, who went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in a win over the Mariners on Friday, is expected to serve as the primary designated hitter during Khris Davis' stay on the injured list due to a hip injury, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

The veteran has already been doing a pretty convincing Davis impression over the last several games, as he's now left the yard on five occasions over the last eight contests overall. Canha is slashing .229/.353/.600 on the season, and while he isn't likely to be as prodigious as Davis, the veteran is coming off a 2018 season in which he slugged a career-high 17 home runs.

Canha went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in a 7-2 victory against the Indians on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old is on a bit of a home-run hitting spree. He has gone deep in back-to-back games and has posted five homers since May 13. Canha is still only batting .224 but with nine extra-base hits in 67 at-bats, he's posted a .567 slugging percentage. Canha also has seven home runs, 14 RBI and 13 runs in 26 games.

Canha came off the bench Tuesday and went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in the 5-3 win over the Indians.

Canha entered the game for an injured Khris Davis (oblique) and proceeded to hit the two-run shot to right field in his first at-bat. The 30-year-old has found little consistency since coming off the injured list last week with a .227 average, but he has found his power stroke with four home runs in that stretch.
