He has started in all three games for the Mets so far this season, twice in left field and once as the designated hitter. Even though he's 34 years old, there might be some upside here, particularly in the power department.

Canha went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Rays.

Getting the start in left field and batting sixth, Canha collected his third double of the spring, although he has yet to go yard. The veteran outfielder has gone 12-for-48 (.250) in Grapefruit League action and is locked into a starting spot for the Mets.

Canha revealed Wednesday that he had trouble maintaining his weight last season because of gastritis, Pat Ragazzo of SI.com reports.

Gastritis is inflammation of the stomach lining, a condition which made it "hard for me to get calories and be comfortable, so a lot of times I wouldn't eat very much because I was afraid of getting a stomachache," Canha said. The good news is the gastritis has subsided, allowing Canha to put some muscle back on during offseason workouts. The outfielder is hoping that the added bulk will lead to more power, with Canha having a goal of hitting 10 more home runs than the 13 he clubbed in 2022.

Canha went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and an additional run scored in Wednesday's victory over the Nationals.

Canha kicked off the scoring for the Mets in the first inning, launching a three-run homer off Erick Fedde to score Francisco Alvarez and Daniel Vogelbach. The outfielder then led off the third inning with a single before coming around to score on a James McCann home run. It was Canha's seventh multi-hit game since the start of September, and he's now recorded two hits in three of his last four, hitting .462 over that brief stretch to close the regular season.

Canha is not in the starting lineup Wednesday versus the Brewers.
