Athletics manager Bob Melvin confirmed Semien (wrist) would return from the 60-day disabled list during the team's series with the Mariners that begins Thursday, Ron Kroichick of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Athletics haven't tipped their hand on how they'll open up a roster spot for Semien, but it's likely that prized prospect Franklin Barreto, who has been seeing regular time at shortstop, will be optioned back to Triple-A Nashville to facilitate the move. Semien, who has out since mid-April after fracturing his right wrist, has performed well during his eight-game rehab assignment that has included stops in the California and Pacific Coast Leagues, going 10-for-31 with two home runs and three doubles. The extra-base knocks offer encouragement that his surgically-repaired wrist won't limit his power production as he prepares to settle back into an everyday role up the middle for the Athletics.

Athletics manager Bob Melvin said that he's hopeful Semien (wrist) will be ready to come off the 60-day disabled list during the club's four-game series with the Mariners that begins Thursday, Joe Stiglich of NBC Sports California reports.
EDGE Analysis
Semien has been sidelined since mid April with the fractured right wrist, but after making his sixth rehab appearance Saturday, he looks to be rapidly approaching full health. During those contests, Semien has turned in three multi-hit efforts, an indication the wrist hasn't provided many complications with his swing mechanics. He played a nine-inning game with Triple-A Nashville on Saturday and may only need one or two more full games before the Athletics feel comfortable signing off on his return. Once he's activated, Semien would likely take over as the primary option at shortstop, displacing top prospect Franklin Barreto.

Semien went 3-for-5 with two RBI from a run-scoring single and a home run in High-A Stockton's win over Modesto on Saturday and is hitting .500 with a pair of doubles over his first two games with the Ports.
EDGE Analysis
So far, so good for he rehabbing shortstop, whose rehab assignment is expected to be an extended one according to manager Bob Melvin. Semien underwent wrist surgery back on April 18 and has been progressively ramping up his activity since late May. If all goes well, Semien projects to return to the big-league club at some point in July.

Semien's (wrist) rehab assignment will be extensive according to manager Bob Melvin, Hank Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Melvin made it a point to emphasize that Semien's assignment will not just be a matter of a few games, instead remarking it will be "almost like spring training". The slugging shortstop has been sidelined since April 14 with his injury and has logged just 46 plate appearances in 2017.

Semien (wrist) is scheduled to start a rehab assignment with High-A Stockton on Friday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Semien was able to get through batting practice over the weekend without a hitch, clearing the way for him to return to game action later in the week. Seeing as the 26-year-old has been sidelined for most of the season, he'll likely need at least a few rehab games before rejoining the Athletics. If he continues to progress without any setbacks, Semien could return to the majors sometime in early July.

Semien (wrist), who took batting practice before Friday's game for the first time since his injury, could begin a minor-league rehab assignment as early as next week, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports. "He's progressed really nicely to get to this point, and we all know he wants to get out there and play and get on a rehab assignment as soon as he can," manager Bob Melvin said. "If we feel good about where he's at, then in potentially a week or so maybe he looks to get out on a rehab assignment."
EDGE Analysis
The slugging shortstop has been improving at a brisk clip and appears to be on the brink of a return to game action. Semien has already missed 56 games as a result of his April 18 surgery, which has provided promising rookie Chad Pinder extended playing time. Assuming he doesn't encounter any setbacks the rest of the way, Semien currently projects for an early July return to the big-league club.

Semien (wrist) will take batting practice prior to Friday's game against the Yankees, Joe Stiglich of NBC Sports California reports.
EDGE Analysis
This is the first time that Semien will be able to do full swinging off a pitched ball, which is great progress considering he just progressed to soft toss drills Sunday. There's no timetable for him to head out onto a rehab assignment, although he certainly is getting closer to that event happening, making an early July return reasonable.

Semien was able to hit soft toss Sunday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Semien had previously been hitting off a tee, so hitting soft-toss throws amounts to incremental progress. The true test for Semien's wrist won't come until he's able to take batting practice, but it's unclear how close he is to reaching that phase of the recovery process. In the meantime, Chad Pinder will continue to serve as the Athletics' everyday shortstop while the team awaits Semien's return from the disabled list.

Semien (wrist) hit off a tee with his game bat Wednesday, the first time he has done so since undergoing surgery, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's another small but positive step in the recovery process for Semien, who is likely out until at least July as he continues to rebuild strength. The shortstop clearly has some monumental hurdles to clear before he's able to return to regular action, meaning Chad Pinder will continue receiving plenty of opportunities to prove his place.

Semien (wrist) is being brought along slowly in his rehab and may not return until July, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports Monday.
EDGE Analysis
This shouldn't come as much of a surprise, as Semien is on the 60-day disabled list and isn't eligible to return until mid-June anyway. Regardless of how long his rehab takes, it doesn't appear that Semien's job will be in jeopardy, as neither Adam Rosales nor Chad Pinder should threaten his playing time upon his return.
