Marco Scutaro is not in the Giants' starting lineup Wednesday against the Reds. Not word on the reason for his absence, but Scutaro has been nursing a back injury recently. Tony Abreu will fill in at second base.

Marco Scutaro (back) went 0-for-3 with a strikeout in his return to action Monday against the Reds. Scutaro sat out Sunday's game due to a lingering back issue, but he felt well enough to give it a go Monday. The Giants will continue to monitor his status moving forward.

Marco Scutaro is out of Sunday's lineup due to a back issue. It's the same thing that bothered him back in April. It doesn't appear at this point that the Giants think Scutaro might need a stint on the disabled list, but it's possible he'll need a few days of rest. Tony Abreu is at second base Sunday.

Marco Scutaro is back in the Giants' lineup Tuesday. Scutaro is dealing with "mallet finger" in his left pinkie, which is a form of tendon damage. The injury can often take 6-8 weeks to fully recover from, but Scutaro will try to play through it. He had missed the previous six games.

Marco Scutaro (thumb) said he expects to return to the Giants' lineup "soon." "Soon," Scutaro said Monday. "Tomorrow. Next day... depends on how the finger reacts (from day to day)." Scutaro hasn't played since last Tuesday after being diagnosed with "mallet finger" as a result of a hit by pitch. The injury can often take 6-8 weeks to fully recover from, but Scutaro will try to play through it.

Marco Scutaro (thumb) is not in the Giants' lineup Monday. Scutaro hasn't played since he was diagnosed with "mallet finger" as a result of a hit by pitch last Tuesday. The second baseman plans to play through the ailment, but, obviously the longer he's out, the likelier a DL stint becomes. Tony Abreu is starting at second base Monday.

Marco Scutaro (thumb) took batting practice prior to Saturday's game. It was the first time he's done so since he was diagnosed with "mallet finger." Scutaro will re-evaluated on Monday when the team returns home, at which point he'll be fitted with a custom orthotic splint. He'll attempt to play through the injury.

Marco Scutaro (thumb) will not play this weekend against the Braves. The good news is that Scutaro is feeling much better, and was able to take swings in an indoor batting cage on Friday. He's going to be fitting for a custom orthotic splint when the team returns home on Monday, so there's a chance he could return after that.

Marco Scutaro (finger) took some swings Friday in an indoor cage. Hey, it's progress. Scutaro is going to try to play through tendon damage in his left pinkie finger, but it's not clear when he'll be ready to return the starting lineup. Have a backup plan in place in fantasy leagues for the short-term.
