Just about a week ago, Machado was finishing off a mini-slump which had seen him go 2-for-24, but his bat won't stay silent for long. He's heating back up and is now hitting .323 on the season and has collected 29 RBIs.

So far Machado's been more than worth the first round pick he cost in most leagues, and he's slashing .350/.403/.691 on the season with nine homers, 22 RBI and 24 runs scored. He's still looking for his first steal after swiping 20 in 2015, however, so incredibly enough there is room for improvement in his performance from a fantasy perspective.

Machado went 2-for-4 with a double and run scored in Saturday's 8-4 loss to the A's during the first game of a day-night doubleheader.

EDGE Analysis

The 23-year-old slugger continues to knock the cover off the ball, and is slashing .348/.400/.652 after Saturday afternoon's effort. Machado already has three multi-hit efforts in the first five games of May, including four doubles. While he hasn't homered since April 28 against the White Sox, his seven dingers rank behind only Mark Trumbo's eight on the team.

Machado started at shortstop Tuesday and the Orioles are taking it one day at a time at the position while J.J. Hardy is on the DL, MASN Sports reports.

EDGE Analysis

Machado is already one of the best players in the game no matter where he plays on the field. His normal third base position is rather deep, with Josh Donaldson, Nolan Arenado and Kris Bryant at the fantasy position. If Machado earns the shortstop designation, the flexibility could be very nice for his owners. Machado has logged five games at shortstop so far and his owners figure to be keeping their fingers crossed for more. Ryan Flaherty started at third base and Machado figures to have a green light unless at shortstop unless he starts to make errors.

Machado will bat leadoff against the White Sox on Saturday.

With Joey Rickard on the bench, Machado will move up for his third start atop the order this season. Machado had two more hits out of the two-hole Friday, his 10th multi-hit game already this year. He currently ranks third in the American League in home runs with seven.

His slash line of .333/.389/.678 is well above the 23-year-old's career averages, but growth is to be expected from the young superstar who has been held back by injuries early in his career.
