Luis Perez has shut down his rehab due to lingering issues with his surgically-repaired elbow. Perez underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery last July. He might not pitch in the majors in 2013.

Luis Perez (elbow) is expected to appear in an extended spring training game later this week. Perez has been throwing bullpen sessions, but this will be his first appearance in a game. He's expected to return from Tommy John surgery around midseason.

Blue Jays placed LHP Luis Perez on the 60-day disabled list with a left elbow injury. Perez, 28, had Tommy John surgery last summer and will likely miss most-to-all of the 2013 season. The move was made to make room for newly-acquired reliever Michael Schwimer.

Blue Jays placed LHP Luis Perez on the 60-day disabled list. Perez was diagnosed with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow earlier this week and will miss the rest of the season. Tommy John surgery is likely the next step. Aaron Loup has been called up to take his place on the active roster.

The Blue Jays are not expected to consider Luis Perez for a starting role. Perez started four games with Toronto in 2011. ''Because he hasn't been stretched out, we would go to others first,'' manager John Farrell said. ''He's become such a valuable member of the bullpen, I'd hate to take away from one strength when we might have other options that might be equal to him in the rotation.'' Toronto's other options include minor league pitchers Jesse Chavez, Joel Carreno, and Chad Jenkins.

Luis Perez was pummeled by the Red Sox Tuesday, surrendering eight runs on 10 hits and two walks over just 2 2/3 innings. Perez pitched surprisingly well in his first two starts since moving in from the bullpen, but he struggled in his third outing last week and the wheels fell off in this one. He has a decent matchup this weekend against the Orioles, but we would avoid him in all fantasy formats.

Luis Perez gave up two runs over five innings as part of a no-decision in a loss to the Rays on Saturday afternoon. Perez allowed five hits while walking four and striking out four. The southpaw was pulled after throwing just 52 out of 93 pitches for strikes. While he has allowed just two earned runs over 11 innings in his first two starts, we would steer clear in mixed leagues, even with the last-place Orioles on tap for next week.

Luis Perez took a perfect game into the sixth inning as part of a win over the Athletics Sunday. Perez ended up giving up one hit and walking two over six full innings. Remarkably, this was the sinkerballer's first career start after making 29 relief appearances this season. Although Perez will stick in the rotation with Brad Mills demoted, we're not buying here. Pitching in Oakland against the Athletics' pathetic lineup leads to some fluky outings.
